Triabunna Cabin & Caravan Park Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Triabunna Cabin & Caravan Park on Vicary Street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s one of those places that looks pretty modest from the road, you know? But here’s the thing about this little spot – it actually gets everything right that matters when you’re exploring Tasmania’s east coast. The location is honestly perfect if you’re planning to catch the ferry to Maria Island (which, trust me, you absolutely should). I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the wharf, and there’s something really satisfying about being able to stumble out of your cabin in the morning and grab coffee before hopping on the 9 AM ferry without any stress.

What surprised me most was how quiet it gets here once the day-trippers head back to Hobart. During the day, sure, there’s a bit of activity with people coming and going for Maria Island trips, but evenings? It’s just you, the sound of water lapping against the docks, and maybe some wallabies hopping around the edges of town if you’re lucky. The cabins themselves are pretty straightforward – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s decent water pressure in the showers, which honestly makes all the difference after a day of hiking. I stayed in one of the newer cabins and the kitchenette was well-equipped enough that I could make proper meals instead of living on takeaway. The caravan sites looked well-maintained too, with good spacing between spots so you’re not basically camping in your neighbor’s living room.

Here’s what I really appreciated – the staff actually know the area. When I asked about good spots for photography around the Prosser River, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. They told me about this little track behind the bowling club where you can get amazing sunrise shots over the water, and mentioned that low tide around 6 AM was perfect timing. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a chain hotel. The whole setup works well for different types of travelers too – I saw families with kids running around the playground area, couples with campervans, and solo travelers like me just using it as a base for exploring. Parking is easy (which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling camera gear around), and they’ve got a camp kitchen and laundry facilities that are actually clean and functional. The town itself is small but has what you need – a decent pub, a bakery that does surprisingly good pies, and a little general store. It’s not going to win any luxury awards, but for what it is – a solid, honest place to stay while you explore one of Tasmania’s most underrated coastal areas – it delivers exactly what you’d want.

The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

We stayed in a chalet which was comfortable and had what we required. It was within walking distance to the shops and the marina as we had booked Maria Island.

What could be improved: The park was very full and every spare piece of land was utilised.
