Wangaratta Caravan Park
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Wangaratta Caravan Park on Parfitt Road, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in what feels like a quiet residential pocket, and from the street you might actually drive past it if you’re not paying attention. But once you’re inside, it’s got this surprisingly welcoming vibe that grows on you. The grounds are well-maintained without being fussy about it, you know? There’s established shade trees scattered around (which honestly, you’ll appreciate during those scorching Victorian summers), and the whole place has that lived-in comfort that only comes from being family-run for years.
What really struck me was how the staff actually seem to know their regulars – I mean, genuinely know them, not just that fake hospitality thing. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no complicated key cards or confusing directions to your site. They’ve got a decent mix of powered sites, and while some are closer to the road than others, the traffic on Parfitt isn’t too bad once evening hits. The amenities block is clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the hot water’s reliable and there’s proper lighting, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. I actually appreciated that they’ve kept the original character rather than going for some sterile renovation.
Here’s the thing about Wangaratta – it’s one of those regional towns that punches above its weight, and this caravan park puts you right in the sweet spot. You’re close enough to walk into town (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t mind a gentle stroll), but far enough out to escape the main street noise. The local IGA is practically around the corner, which is handy for supplies, and if you’re into your wine, you’re basically in the heart of King Valley territory – some seriously good cellar doors within a half-hour drive. The park’s got that practical, no-nonsense approach that appeals to grey nomads and families alike. During school holidays it definitely livens up with kids on bikes, but it never felt chaotic. The 7.3 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Perfect if you’re touring through the northeast or using it as a base to explore the high country.

Lovely quiet shady location. Pool was a wonderful cool place to hangout during the hot afternoons. Camp kitchen was well set up. Park was well maintained and the facilities very clean. Staff very friendly.

Our bed was noisy. Not sure if the base was broken as the mattress was dipped in the middle.

Fairly tired and a very tight space in our cabin. We are in our 70s and bed was a challenge to be comfortable in unfortunately.
