Marwood Villas
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up Mt Zero Road – it’s one of those winding country roads that makes you wonder if your GPS is having a laugh. But then you see Marwood Villas tucked into the landscape, and suddenly it all makes sense. This place gets the whole Grampians thing right in a way that most accommodations completely miss.
The villas themselves are actually quite thoughtful – I mean, someone clearly spent time thinking about how people really want to unwind when they’re escaping Melbourne or Adelaide for the weekend. You’re literally five minutes from the main Halls Gap strip (where you’ll inevitably end up at the pub or grabbing supplies), but far enough out that you can actually hear the kookaburras instead of car doors slamming. The rooms have that perfect balance of being genuinely comfortable without trying too hard to be fancy – decent coffee machine, proper shower pressure, and windows that frame the ranges like artwork. What I really appreciated was the little stuff: good reading lights, enough power outlets, and blackout curtains that actually work when you want to sleep in after a big day hiking.
You know what sets this place apart though? The location is absolutely spot-on for exploring the area properly. Mt Zero Road puts you right where you want to be – close enough to walk to Halls Gap’s cafes and the visitor center, but you’re also perfectly positioned for the serious hiking trails. The Pinnacle walk starts basically around the corner, and if you’re into rock climbing or just want to see the Aboriginal art sites, you’re already halfway there. The staff actually know the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They’ll tell you which trails are worth your time and which ones are just tourist traps, plus they’re honest about timing – like how the Venus Baths walk gets absolutely packed after 10am on weekends, so you might want to set that alarm a bit earlier. Parking’s never an issue here either, which is a genuine relief during peak season when Halls Gap proper turns into a bit of a circus. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those places that just works without any drama or nasty surprises.

Stayed in a beautiful setting just a short drive from the activities and very much enjoyed the kangaroos hanging out on the property right behind the cottage and at the watering hole. The cottage itself was great as well. Very welcoming.

Very comfortable villa, tasteful decor. Bed was huge & oh so comfortable. Toiletries supplied for the spa , very relaxing. Kitchen facilities are great, stay in & cook your own meals or eat out at a variety of eateries in town. The surrounding grounds are well kept by Cam with wildlife in abundance at your doorstep. Great apartment on a fantastic property. Very quiet and surrounded by nature and native fauna. Very relaxing.
Could be improved
There was a fair bit of grime on the windows. The fly-screens were compromised a bit as well, with insects getting in.
