Riverside Cabin Park
Riverside Cabin Park Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I pulled into Riverside Cabin Park on the Goulburn Highway – I mean, it’s right there on the main road heading into Shepparton, so I figured it’d be all traffic noise and truck stops. But honestly, once you get past that initial highway impression, this place has a charm that sneaks up on you. The cabins themselves are scattered around the property in a way that actually feels thoughtful, not just dropped wherever there was space. Mine had this little covered deck that faced away from the road, and I spent way too much time out there with my morning coffee, watching the local birds doing their thing.
The whole setup is pretty straightforward – these aren’t luxury pods or anything fancy, but they’re clean and comfortable in that honest, no-nonsense way that actually works better than places trying too hard. The bed was surprisingly decent (I’m picky about mattresses), and the kitchenette had everything I needed without being cluttered with gadgets I’d never use. What really got me was how quiet it was at night – I mean, you’d think being on the Goulburn Highway would be a nightmare for light sleepers, but somehow the way the cabins are positioned and maybe some decent insulation just… works. I slept better than I have in some four-star places in Melbourne, if I’m being honest.
The staff actually know the area, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how rare that is these days. When I mentioned I was heading to some of the wineries around Shepparton, the woman at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – she told me which ones were worth the drive and which roads to avoid during harvest season. Little things like that make a difference when you’re trying to make the most of your time somewhere. The whole place feels like it’s run by people who live here, not some corporate chain where everyone’s reading from a script. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the shower pressure could be better, but there’s something refreshing about a place that just does what it says on the tin without any pretense. If you’re exploring the Goulburn Valley and want somewhere that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, this hits that sweet spot perfectly.
