BIG4 South Durras Holiday Park

BIG4 South Durras Holiday Park Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to BIG4 South Durras Holiday Park on Beagle Bay Road, I wasn’t expecting much. The name screams “family camping chaos,” and well, there’s definitely some of that. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.
The thing about South Durras is that it’s tucked between the lake and the ocean, which sounds like marketing speak until you’re actually there watching kids fish off the jetty while surfers paddle out just a few hundred meters away. The holiday park sits right in this sweet spot where you can hear the waves if the wind’s right, but you’re not dealing with that constant beach sand everywhere situation. I mean, don’t get me wrong – there’s still sand, but it’s manageable sand, if that makes sense. The cabins are honestly better than I expected (and I’ve stayed in plenty of questionable holiday park accommodations). They’ve clearly put some money into updating things recently because everything felt clean and functional, not that tired, sticky feeling you sometimes get at these places.
What really sold me was the morning routine here. You wake up and there’s this genuine small-town holiday vibe – people making coffee on their cabin decks, someone’s always firing up a barbecue by 10am, and the camp store actually stocks decent coffee beans, not just instant. The staff know their stuff too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out whether Depot Beach or Durras Lake is better for your particular brand of family chaos that day. They’ll tell you straight up that weekends get hectic (especially during school holidays), but weekdays? It’s actually pretty peaceful. The amenities block is cleaner than most – and trust me, that’s not something I thought I’d be writing about with enthusiasm, but here we are. There’s proper water pressure in the showers, which honestly feels like a minor miracle at some of these places.
The location is what really makes this work though. You’re five minutes from Durras Beach, which has that perfect combo of waves for the teenagers and calm spots for the littlies. But more importantly, you’re far enough from Batemans Bay to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds, yet close enough that you can duck over for supplies or a proper restaurant meal when camp cooking loses its charm. The Princes Highway is right there, so getting in and out is dead easy – no winding through endless suburban streets or getting lost in someone’s idea of “scenic routes.” I stayed here twice last year, once during Easter (mistake – way too busy) and once in late autumn, which was absolutely perfect. That 8.6 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re actually getting for the price point.

Amazing location on the beach. Spacious clean cabin. Helpful staff.
What could be improved: We just had terrible luck with weather. Stuck inside and the tv didn’t work because of the storm.
