BIG4 Hobart Airport Tourist Park
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “tourist park near the airport,” I was picturing one of those grim places you crash at out of desperation. But BIG4 Hobart Airport Tourist Park actually surprised me in the best way. The thing is, being on Flight Street sounds like you’d be dealing with jet noise all night, but it’s really not that bad. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional plane, but Hobart’s airport isn’t exactly LAX – most flights wrap up by evening anyway.
What I really love about this place is how it feels like they actually thought about what travelers need. The facilities are genuinely well-maintained (and I mean properly clean, not just “tourist park clean”), and there’s this nice mix of people – families doing the Tassie road trip thing, overseas visitors who’ve figured out this is way better value than city hotels, and honestly, some locals who just want a weekend away without the fuss. The staff know their stuff too – they’ll tell you the back roads to avoid if you’re heading to MONA, or which days the Salamanca Market gets absolutely packed. Actually, being out in Cambridge means you’re positioned pretty perfectly for day trips. You’re what, fifteen minutes from the city when traffic’s decent, but you can also hit the eastern shore beaches or even make a proper day of it down to Port Arthur without backtracking through Hobart.
Here’s the thing though – and this might matter depending on what you’re after – it definitely has that family-friendly vibe. Kids running around, people firing up barbecues, that whole communal holiday atmosphere. If you’re looking for somewhere sleek and anonymous, this isn’t it. But if you want somewhere that feels relaxed and unpretentious, where you can actually chat with other travelers and get real recommendations, it’s spot on. The amenities are solid without being fancy – good hot showers, decent kitchen facilities if you’re self-catering, and enough space that you’re not on top of each other. I mean, for a 4-star rating, they deliver what they promise. Plus, and this is something you don’t always think about until you need it, there’s proper parking and it’s easy to get in and out with a loaded car or camper. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make a place work, you know?

A well equipped and very comfy chalet. Check-in went smoothly.
We only spent one night, because the next day we had a flight. Definitely would have loved to spend much more days at the BIG4 Hobart.

The location near the airport was great. Even being right next to the runway it wasn’t that noisy.

A great cabin very close to the airport for our early flight out the next morning. Lots of room in the main areas, we used the kitchen facilities, including the cooktop, all good except I don't like induction [personal choice]. A large fridge, enough bench space & crockery, cutlery etc. We purchased fresh oysters & fresh fish from the shop just...
