You’re literally five minutes from Windang Beach, which is this gorgeous stretch of sand that never seems to get as crowded as the beaches further north. The lake is perfect for kayaking or just sitting with a coffee in the morning – I spent way too much time doing exactly that. And here’s something the booking sites don’t tell you: the sunsets over the lake are absolutely spectacular, especially if you grab a spot near the water’s edge around 6 PM. The whole area has this relaxed, unpretentious feel that’s getting harder to find along the NSW coast. During my stay, I noticed it attracts a good mix of families doing the classic Aussie holiday thing and couples looking for a quiet getaway without the tourist trap pricing. The facilities are solid – clean bathrooms, decent camp kitchen if you’re staying in one of the powered sites, and the playground keeps the kids happy. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything’s functional and well-kept. One thing worth mentioning: if you’re coming in peak season, book ahead because word’s getting out about this place, and honestly, I can see why it’s scoring an 8.8 rating from guests. It delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
