This spot actually gets it right in ways that matter, and that 8.4 rating starts making sense pretty quickly once you settle in.

The thing about Moama is that it’s right on the Murray River border – literally, you can walk across the bridge to Echuca in Victoria for dinner if you want – and this holiday park sits in the sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not dealing with the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re talking a five-minute drive to the Moama Steamboat Wharf, and honestly, the kids were more excited about the park’s facilities than half the official attractions we’d planned. The cabins here aren’t fancy, but they’re clean and actually spacious (refreshing change from some of the shoebox accommodations you get these days), and there’s something really satisfying about having your own little setup with a proper kitchen. The camp sites are well-spaced too – we weren’t practically sharing a bedroom wall with strangers like at some places I could mention.

What really won me over was how the whole place just… works. The pool area gets busy during school holidays – fair warning if you’re hoping for peaceful morning laps – but the staff actually pay attention to keeping it clean, and there’s enough space that it doesn’t feel like a sardine situation. The playground equipment is newer than expected, which matters when you’ve got kids who can spot a sketchy swing set from fifty meters away. And here’s a detail that sounds small but isn’t: the camp kitchen and BBQ areas are genuinely well-maintained. You know how some places have those sad, grimy communal spaces that make you want to eat takeaway for a week? Not here. Plus, the laundry facilities actually work properly – again, something you don’t appreciate until you’re dealing with muddy clothes after a day by the river. The Wi-Fi is decent enough for checking emails and keeping the teenagers from complete meltdown, though don’t expect to stream movies in 4K. Honestly, though, if you’re in Moama staring at screens all day, you’re missing the point.
