River Coquet Luxury Hot Tub Retreat
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to River Coquet Luxury Hot Tub Retreat on Leamington Lane, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the quiet country road. But you know what? Sometimes the best places hide in plain sight. This four-star retreat sits tucked away in Swarland, and the moment you step out of your car, you can actually hear the River Coquet babbling nearby — it’s not just a clever name. The whole property has this peaceful, almost secretive feel that immediately tells you you’ve found something special.
The Accommodation
The room itself is beautifully designed with those exposed beams and stone walls that make you feel like you’re staying in a proper Northumberland cottage, but with all the modern touches you’d want. I mean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and there’s this lovely seating area by the window where you can watch the countryside wake up in the morning. But let’s be honest — the real star here is that private hot tub on the terrace. After a day exploring the area, slipping into those warm bubbles while listening to the river flow past is pretty much perfect.
Location & Surroundings
Swarland might not be on everyone’s radar, but that’s exactly why it works so well for a romantic getaway. You’re genuinely in the heart of Northumberland countryside, with rolling hills and ancient woodlands all around. The village itself is tiny — just a few houses and that lovely old church — but you’re only about twenty minutes from the coast if you want to explore places like Warkworth or Amble. I actually found some brilliant walking trails right from the property, and the staff gave me a hand-drawn map of local routes that you won’t find in any guidebook.
Dining & Amenities
There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, that’s part of the charm here. The retreat provides a welcome hamper with local treats — proper Northumberland cheese, homemade preserves, and some excellent locally-sourced bread. The little kitchenette has everything you need if you want to cook something simple, though I’d recommend driving to nearby Alnwick for dinner at least once. The market town is only fifteen minutes away and has some fantastic pubs that serve incredible local lamb and fresh seafood from the nearby coast.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel completely secluded while still being accessible. Couples absolutely rave about it — and I can see why. There’s something about soaking in that hot tub under the Northumberland stars that just makes everything else fade away. The property gets top marks for location from recent guests, and after staying there myself, I totally understand the appeal. It’s the kind of place where you can disconnect from everything and just focus on each other, with the gentle sound of the River Coquet providing the perfect soundtrack to your stay.
