NRMA Tathra Beachfront Holiday Park
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to NRMA Tathra Beachfront Holiday Park on Andy Poole Drive, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star holiday park. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you upfront. This spot actually delivers on the “beachfront” promise in a way that made me forget about fancy hotel lobbies pretty quickly.
The thing about Tathra is that it’s still got that authentic coastal vibe – you’re not dealing with the Surfers Paradise crowds here. The park sits right where you can hear the waves properly, not just glimpse them between high-rises. I mean, you can literally walk from your cabin to Tathra Beach in under two minutes, and trust me, that beach is the kind of place where locals still outnumber tourists most days. The sand’s this beautiful white stuff, and if you head left toward the wharf area, you’ll find some decent fishing spots that the old-timers will actually tell you about if you ask nicely. The cabins themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a holiday park, but they’re clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – the park has this relaxed family atmosphere where people actually respect quiet hours.
Here’s what sold me on the place though: the staff actually know the area. When I asked about good coffee (because let’s face it, that’s crucial), they didn’t just point me toward the camp store – they told me about Tathra Hotel’s breakfast spot and mentioned that the local bakery opens early if you’re planning beach walks. That’s the kind of local knowledge you don’t get from chain hotels. The facilities are pretty solid too – the camp kitchen’s clean, there’s decent hot water pressure, and the WiFi actually works (which honestly surprised me for a beachfront location). Parking’s never an issue, which is more than I can say for most coastal spots during school holidays. The only minor gripe I had was that some of the older cabins could use a bit of updating, but honestly, when you’re spending most of your time on the beach or exploring the Sapphire Coast, you’re not exactly lounging around indoors anyway.
What really makes this place work is its location on the Sapphire Coast – you’re perfectly positioned between Merimbula and Bega, so you can do day trips without feeling rushed. The Tathra Wharf is literally a five-minute walk, and if you time it right during winter, you might catch some whale action from there. The park fills up during peak season (Christmas through January, obviously), but even then it doesn’t feel cramped. I’d definitely come back, especially for that combination of genuine beachfront access and reasonable prices – something that’s getting harder to find along the NSW coast these days.

It was good for us and elderly parents, easy access to villa and beach, pleasant grounds. What could be improved: Main Bed had 2 roll out from under , it was a hazard as there was not enough room to move around ( ask our stubbed toes ) and quite high up. Bathroom was big but should have had a fold down bench seat in shower area and fold down rails...
