Strayleaves Caravan Park
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to Strayleaves Caravan Park on the corner of Mitchell Street and Old Dookie Road, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, caravan parks can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s got that unpretentious, genuinely welcoming vibe that’s getting harder to find these days. The owners clearly give a damn – you can tell from the moment you pull in that someone’s been putting effort into keeping things tidy and functional without trying to be something they’re not.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to strike this balance between being close enough to Shepparton proper (you’re literally a few minutes from the main drag) but far enough out that you’re not dealing with constant traffic noise. The Old Dookie Road location means you get a bit of that country feel without being stuck in the middle of nowhere – honestly, it’s perfect if you’re using it as a base to explore the Goulburn Valley or if you just need a decent stopover between Melbourne and Sydney. The powered sites are actually generous in size, which matters when you’re trying to set up camp and not bump into your neighbor’s awning every time you step outside. And here’s something that caught me off guard – the amenities block was genuinely clean. I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places where the bathrooms made me want to shower with my shoes on, but these folks keep things properly maintained.
The staff deserve a mention too – they’re the kind of people who remember your name after one conversation and actually know useful stuff about the area. When I asked about decent coffee in Shepparton, they didn’t just point me toward the nearest chain; they told me about this little place on Wyndham Street that locals actually go to. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a website, you know what I mean? Sure, it’s a 3-star place and it looks like one – don’t come expecting marble countertops or a fancy pool area. But sometimes you just want somewhere clean, reasonably priced, and run by people who actually care about their guests having a good experience. The 8.0 rating makes total sense to me because it’s exactly what it promises to be, just done really well. If you’re road tripping through Victoria or need a base for exploring the Shepparton region without paying city hotel prices, this is honestly a solid choice.

Even though the park is in the industrial estate you do not feel like it is. Also it was close to the venue we were going to
