Nagambie Caravan Park & Motel
You know what? The Nagambie Caravan Park & Motel on High Street is one of those places that surprises you – and I mean that in a good way. When I first pulled up, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s got that classic Australian motel vibe going on, but once you settle in, you realize the owners actually know what they’re doing here. The rooms are clean and comfortable (nothing fancy, but the beds are decent and the air con works properly), and honestly, for a 3-star place, they’ve nailed the basics without trying to be something they’re not.
What really makes this place work is the location – you’re literally walking distance from the Goulburn River, which is perfect if you’re into fishing or just want to sit by the water with a coffee in the morning. The caravan park side means there’s always a bit of activity, families setting up for weekend trips, but it never gets too rowdy. Actually, I found it kind of nice – gives the place a proper community feel rather than that sterile hotel atmosphere. The staff seem to know half the guests by name, especially the regulars who come up for the fishing season. Parking’s never an issue (plenty of space), and they’ve got those covered areas where you can actually sit outside without getting fried by the sun.
Here’s the thing about Nagambie – it’s not just a stopover town like some people think. Sure, you’ve got visitors heading to the wineries around Strathbogie, but there’s something genuinely relaxing about the pace here. The motel sits right in the heart of town, so you can walk to the bakery for decent pies (trust me on this), and the pub’s close enough if you want a proper meal without driving anywhere. I stayed during a quieter weekday period, and honestly, it felt like having the whole place to yourself – you could hear the river at night, which beats traffic noise any day. The 7.5 rating seems about right; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re looking for somewhere unpretentious where you can actually unwind – maybe you’re touring wine country or just need a break from Melbourne – this place gets it right without all the fuss.

Just a small criticism, there were no bedside tables & it would have been nice to have a small table and chairs outside our cabin so we could sit outside.

Due to the residential nature of it not sure if it was right for a group of kids although nothing happened at all while we were there just concerned about noise and the residents .

Nice and clean room was very pleasing. A few stains in the carpet and behind the sliding door in the toilet room could do with a clean but that's minimal when taking things into account. We were on the whole very impressed with the cleanliness. What could be improved: Explanation at booking re the location of the park, on Maps it sends you...
