HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Lighthouse Beach Holiday Village – I mean, it’s tucked away on Matthew Flinders Drive, and honestly, the name makes it sound a bit more resort-y than it actually is. But here’s the thing about this place: it’s got this unpretentious, family-friendly vibe that really grows on you, especially if you’re not looking for fancy marble lobbies and turndown service.

The location is actually pretty clever – you’re close enough to Port Macquarie’s main stretch that you can walk to decent coffee (there’s this little place called Grind Coffee that locals love, maybe ten minutes down the road), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the chaos of Horton Street during school holidays. The beach access is the real winner here though. I mean, you’re literally a couple of minutes from some seriously good sand, and not the touristy bit where everyone sets up camp – this is more like the stretch where you’ll see early morning joggers and people walking their dogs. The sound of waves actually carries to some of the rooms, which is either perfect or potentially annoying if you’re a light sleeper.

What I appreciate about Lighthouse Beach Holiday Village is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and functional – think holiday apartment more than hotel suite – with enough space to actually unpack if you’re staying more than a couple of nights. The kitchenettes are properly equipped (not like those joke setups with two plates and a microwave), so you can actually grab groceries from the Woolies on Hastings River Drive and save some money instead of eating out every meal. The pool area gets pretty lively during peak season, but visit in the shoulder months and it’s quite peaceful. Parking’s never been an issue in my experience, which is more than I can say for places closer to the town center. Check-in is straightforward – no nonsense, which I prefer over overly chatty front desk staff when you just want to dump your bags and hit the beach. The 7.1 rating feels about right, honestly – it’s solid without being spectacular, reliable without being remarkable. Perfect for families who want to be near the action but not in the thick of it, or couples looking for a relaxed base to explore the Mid North Coast without breaking the bank.

Did our own breakfasts but tea and coffee was made available. We had the space of a small flat and we looked for that in preference to a motel room. Quiet and close to nature

What could be improved: No prior contact seemed possible as we could never get past the
message bank and email went unanswered

We had a bungalow which was very spacious and despite it being a very warm weekend we caught the breeze which kept us comfortable.
The only recommendation I would have is a fan for the main bedroom.

What could be improved: A previous tenant of this bungalow had left the cooking appliances dirty and greasy. This was not found by the staff prior to our arrival. Making it difficult for us to cook a meal.
Unable to find a staff member to report it to, we left it until departure. However we received an apology and an offer for a future stay to compensate. So we left happy.
