Swansea Beach Chalets
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along Tasmania’s east coast, but Swansea Beach Chalets really gets it right. The moment you pull up to 27 Shaw Street, you’re hit with this perfect view of Great Oyster Bay – I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from the water. The chalets themselves have this unpretentious charm that feels authentically Tasmanian, not like some developer’s idea of what a beach place should look like.
What really sold me was the thoughtful setup inside. These aren’t your typical cookie-cutter hotel rooms – each chalet feels like someone’s well-loved beach house, complete with proper kitchens (actually useful ones, not those sad mini-fridges most places stick you with) and living areas where you can spread out after a day exploring Freycinet. The beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered, which matters when you’ve been hiking the Hazards all day. And here’s something you don’t always think about – the water pressure in the showers is fantastic, plus they’ve got this great setup where you can rinse off sandy feet before heading inside.
The location is what makes this place special though. You’re right in Swansea’s sweet spot – close enough to walk to Spiky Bridge or grab fish and chips at the local spots, but far enough from the main road that you’re not dealing with tourist bus noise. Parking’s easy (which anyone who’s driven around here in summer will appreciate), and honestly, the staff just gets it. They’re locals who know when the mutton birds are flying or where to find the best spots for kayaking without the crowds. The 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers – you can feel it in those little details, like how they time housekeeping so you’re never rushed out, or the way they stock local honey and crackers instead of generic hotel snacks. If you’re doing the whole east coast loop, this is where you want to base yourself for a few days, not just crash for one night.

The view from the chalet was fantastic. It was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The location was better than we had thought and we could easily walk in to town for breakfast and dinners. What could be improved: We had requested a cot for our baby, and a few days before arriving I had even reached out to confirm it was...

What a fantasy dream time stay, it was like something from a fantasy paradise planet, great staff, but the room - and the VIEW, and the tapas bar in town - best meal I had in Australia. Don't rush round to Freycinet NP, stay here in Swansea chalets for one of the very best views on the planet!!
