Horsham Holiday Park
You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first pulled up to Horsham Holiday Park on the Western Highway – I mean, it’s not exactly where you’d expect to find a hidden gem. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The first thing that hits you is how quiet it gets once you’re off the main road, which is saying something since the Western Highway can get pretty busy with trucks heading toward Adelaide. The reception folks were genuinely friendly (not that forced hotel smile thing), and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, no lengthy explanations of amenities I’d never use.
The grounds are what really won me over, though. It’s got this relaxed, almost residential feel that makes you forget you’re staying at what’s technically a holiday park. The cabins are solid – nothing fancy, but they’re clean and actually quite spacious, with proper kitchenettes that aren’t just for show. I appreciated that the beds were comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d wrestled with the mattress all night. What really struck me was how well-maintained everything felt despite clearly getting regular use from families and travelers passing through. The bathrooms in particular were better than I expected – hot water that actually stays hot, decent water pressure, and they don’t smell like industrial cleaning products.
Location-wise, it’s pretty perfect if you’re exploring the Wimmera region or just need a solid overnight stop between Melbourne and Adelaide. You’re literally five minutes from Horsham’s town center, so grabbing dinner or supplies is no hassle at all. The Botanical Gardens are close enough for an evening walk if you’re into that sort of thing, and honestly, Horsham’s got more going on than most people realize – decent cafes, a surprisingly good bakery on Firebrace Street, and the locals are the kind of helpful that makes you feel like you’re visiting relatives rather than just passing through. I stayed during what seemed like a busy period (school holidays, I think?), but it never felt crowded or chaotic. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re a super light sleeper, you might catch the occasional truck on the highway early in the morning, but it’s really not bad – certainly didn’t keep me awake. For a three-star place, it punches well above its weight, and that 8.5 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there.

I liked that the park was a great size. Facilities and grounds very nest and clean. The pool area was great! A relaxing little oasis! I will stay here again when I am in the area! What could be improved: Some traffic noise from the highway, although I don't feel that the noise was excessive - might just have been more noticeable to me as I...
