Honestly, when I first pulled up to Haven Dreams Caravan on Harley Shute Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – I mean, the name had me thinking camping vibes, but this place is actually something completely different. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch that most tourists probably drive right past on their way to Hastings’ main attractions, which is kind of perfect because you get that local neighborhood feel without the crowds.

The whole setup is brilliantly quirky in a way that actually works. You know how some boutique places try too hard to be different? This isn’t that. The owners have genuinely created something special here – part cozy guesthouse, part artistic retreat, with these thoughtful touches that show someone really cares about the details. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, and honestly, the 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a night here. What really got me was how quiet it is at night (you’re far enough from the A259 that traffic isn’t an issue), but you can still walk to the Old Town in about fifteen minutes if you know the footpath shortcuts through the residential streets.

The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. Most people staying in Hastings either go for the seafront hotels – which can be noisy and overpriced, especially during summer – or they end up in those generic chain places near the station. Haven Dreams sits in this sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully appointed home rather than a hotel, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The owners clearly know the area well and they’re not shy about sharing local tips – like which fish and chip shop the locals actually use (not the touristy ones on the seafront) or when to visit the castle ruins to avoid the school groups. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Hastings’ narrow streets will appreciate.

I’ll be honest, this isn’t the place if you need a gym, room service, or that whole full-service hotel experience. But if you want somewhere that feels authentic and thoughtful – somewhere you’d actually want to spend time rather than just crash for the night – it’s pretty much perfect. The kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because it just feels right, you know?
