Lochend Chalets
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Lochend Chalets in Port of Menteith, I honestly wasn’t expecting much — the name sounds pretty standard, you know? But then you see these beautifully crafted wooden chalets nestled right along the shores of Scotland’s only natural lake, and it hits you that this is something special. The four-star property sits in what locals call “Scotland’s most beautiful village,” and after spending a few days here, I can see why couples are absolutely smitten with this place.
The Chalets Themselves
Each chalet feels like your own private retreat — I mean, these aren’t your typical cramped holiday rentals. The room layouts are thoughtfully designed with plenty of space to actually relax, and honestly, the beds here are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Scotland. You’ll find a well-equipped kitchen that’s perfect for preparing simple meals (though you might be too busy soaking in the views to cook much). What really struck me was how quiet everything is — no slamming doors or footsteps from neighboring units, just the gentle lapping of the lake and maybe some birdsong if you’re lucky.
Location and Natural Beauty
Port of Menteith isn’t just a pretty name — it’s actually positioned on the edge of the Trossachs National Park, which means you’re surrounded by some of Scotland’s most stunning landscapes. The lake itself is famous for being home to the historic Inchmahome Priory on its island, and you can catch a boat over there during the warmer months. What I loved most was how you can step out of your chalet and immediately feel connected to nature, whether that’s taking an early morning walk along the water or just sitting on your private deck with a cup of tea.
Practical Comforts
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of remote Scottish properties where you’re constantly worrying about parking or basic amenities, but Lochend Chalets gets the practical stuff right. There’s free private parking right on-site, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think when you’re exploring this area with a car full of hiking gear. The chalets come with everything you need for a self-catered stay, and the property management is refreshingly hands-off but responsive when you need them.
Why Guests Love It
After talking to other guests during my stay, it became clear that people return here year after year for the same reasons I fell for it — the combination of genuine tranquility and easy access to outdoor adventures. You’re close enough to Stirling and Glasgow for day trips, but far enough away that you actually feel like you’ve escaped. The fact that couples consistently rate the location a perfect 10 tells you something about the romantic appeal, but honestly, I think anyone who appreciates natural beauty and a bit of peace would find something to love here. It’s one of those places where you arrive stressed and leave wondering why you don’t live somewhere like this full-time.

The accommodation was clean, spacious, and well equipped. The views were absolutely outstanding. Immediate access to the lake from your chalet. It's the most stunning and peaceful location we've visited. The play area and grounds were lovely, too. We are planning on visiting again next year. But next time, book through their own website.
