Discovery Parks – Emerald Beach
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks on Fishermans Drive, I wasn’t expecting much. Holiday parks can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s right there on Emerald Beach (hence the name), and I mean literally a two-minute walk to sand that’s honestly some of the nicest on the Mid North Coast. The beach here isn’t one of those Instagram-famous spots that gets absolutely slammed, which is perfect if you’re after something a bit more low-key.
What really got me was how well they’ve balanced the whole family-friendly vibe without making it feel like complete chaos. Yeah, there are kids around – it’s a holiday park – but the layout is smart. The cabins are spread out enough that you’re not hearing every conversation your neighbors have, and honestly, the sound of the ocean kind of drowns out most of the background noise anyway. The facilities are actually pretty decent too. I mean, we’re not talking luxury resort here, but everything works, it’s clean, and the staff seem to genuinely care about the place. Check-in was painless, parking’s easy (which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with holiday traffic), and they’ve got that local knowledge thing down – the woman at reception knew exactly which tide times were best for the rock pools up the coast.
Here’s what I really appreciated though: the location gives you options. You can literally walk to Emerald Beach Hotel for a decent pub meal, or if you’re feeling ambitious, it’s maybe a fifteen-minute drive down to Coffs Harbour when you want proper shopping or restaurants. But honestly? Most days I found myself just staying put. There’s something about waking up and being able to hear the waves that makes you not want to rush anywhere. The morning walks along the beach became a bit of a ritual – hardly anyone else around at 7am, just the occasional dog walker or early surfer checking the waves. One thing to keep in mind: this area can get pretty busy during school holidays (especially around Christmas and Easter), so if you’re after that peaceful beach experience, maybe aim for shoulder season. The weather’s still gorgeous in autumn and early spring, and you’ll actually be able to find a decent spot on the sand without planning military-style operations. All up, it’s one of those places that just works – nothing fancy, but everything you need for a proper beach holiday without the tourist trap nonsense.

Facilities were amazing for kids, pool area great, well maintained. So close to the beach. Loved our stay.

Harder to travel in groups if you share a cabin for example, no space for 2 cars, but definitely manageable with parking out front.

Very good location a short walk from the beach. Quiet and well managed. Plenty to entertain kids. We stayed at a cabin so can’t comment on the communal areas, but the cabin, although basic, served our needs for two nights.

Brand new cabins

Tv in main bedroom not yet connected to wifi so not working, lock to bathroom not installed properly so not working, bed on top bunk unmade. Wifi not connectable from the very back cabin!! All these things I would simply put down to being brand new and probably not used before. All totally fixable

Amazing location, excellent facilities for families, the villas are incredibly comfortable with plenty of space and the beds are by far one of the best I have experienced
