The check-in folks were refreshingly normal too, not overly chirpy but genuinely helpful when I asked about the best route to avoid peak hour traffic heading toward the marina.

Here’s the thing about this place that I didn’t expect: it feels more like a proper neighborhood than your typical hotel strip. The accommodation itself is solid and practical. Nothing Instagram-worthy, but the beds are comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), the air con actually works when Mackay’s humidity kicks in, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. I mean, the kitchen setup is basic but functional – you can definitely cook a proper meal if you want to save some cash instead of eating out every night.

The Bluewater Lagoon is an easy drive, and if you’re into the whole Eungella National Park thing (which you should be), you’re positioned well for day trips without having to get up at dawn.
