Crayfish Creek Van & Cabin Park
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Crayfish Creek Van & Cabin Park – honestly, the name made it sound pretty basic. But this little spot along the Bass Highway actually surprised me in the best way. It’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The cabins are clean and comfortable (way more spacious than the photos suggest), and there’s something genuinely relaxing about waking up to the sound of… well, not much at all, which is exactly what you want when you’re escaping city life.
The location is pretty clever if you think about it – you’re right on the main highway so getting in and out is dead simple, but far enough back that you don’t really hear the road noise. I mean, there’s the occasional truck at night, but nothing that kept me awake. What I really appreciated was how the owners seem to actually care about the details that matter. The van sites are properly level (anyone who’s tried to sleep in a wonky caravan knows this is huge), and they’ve got decent power hookups that don’t trip out when you run your kettle and heater at the same time. The amenities block was surprisingly well-maintained too – hot water that actually stays hot, and they keep it clean without that overwhelming bleach smell some places have.
Here’s the thing about this part of Tasmania that I wish more people understood – you’re perfectly positioned for day trips without dealing with Devonport crowds or Burnie prices. Crayfish Creek itself isn’t going to win any tourism awards, but you can hit Table Cape in twenty minutes, the Nut at Stanley is less than an hour away, and if you’re into that whole farm-to-table thing, there are some genuinely good producers scattered around the area that most tourists completely miss. The park managers actually know their stuff about local attractions too, which is refreshing – they gave me directions to this amazing little beach near Boat Harbour that I never would have found otherwise. Sure, it’s not luxury accommodation, and the WiFi can be patchy when it’s windy, but sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base where you can park up, relax, and explore without breaking the bank. For what it is – and what it costs – Crayfish Creek delivers exactly what it promises.

Beautiful, peaceful, quiet property in amongst nature on the edge of a picturesque creek. Easy drive to Stanley & loved our very rustic cabin, very well equipped in kitchen, laundry. Absolutely loved it.

Friendly and helpful staff that was full of excellent recommendations of services around the area. The property is stunning and makes for a great way to start the day walking around the grounds. What could be improved: The sign to turn in from the highway was right where you need to turn, it might be helpful to be a little before the actual turn...

Very friendly and welcoming owners of the park. They had the wood fire going when we arrived late that day! Beautiful and cosy. It’s like taking a holiday when you’re a kid. Rustic and free of too many modern interventions. Camp kitchen is great filled with couches and a beautiful wood heater. Our children thought it was great to be able to wander...

Loved the location and the quirky set up.

The cabin was somewhat tired and cramped even for one person.
The cabin could do with a better couch and less beds.

This park is set in a beautiful location it has very quirky retro cabins and is a great place to switch off as you won't get reception or wifi here but that won't matter with the beautiful creek's , bush walks and beaches at your finger tips. The hosts were lovely and helpful and this is a great place to stay if you want to show your kids what a...
