Discovery Parks – Lake Hume, New South Wales

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what caught me off guard about Discovery Parks at Lake Hume? It’s actually way better than you’d expect from a 3-star place. I mean, when you’re driving down Murray Street and see the entrance, it looks pretty standard – but honestly, once you’re inside the grounds, there’s this relaxed, almost campground-meets-hotel vibe that just works.
The location is the real winner here. You’re literally a stone’s throw from Lake Hume, and I’m not exaggerating – you can hear the water lapping if you’re in one of the cabins closer to the shore. The whole setup feels like they actually thought about families and groups, not just business travelers passing through. There are these decent-sized cabins scattered around (some a bit dated, but clean), and the powered sites are surprisingly spacious if you’re bringing an RV. What I really appreciated was the kitchen facilities – they’re not fancy, but everything works, and there’s enough space that you don’t feel like you’re cooking in a shoebox. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, gave us actual useful tips about boat ramps and fishing spots rather than just handing over keys.
Here’s the thing though – this place really shines if you’re here for the lake itself. The swimming area gets busy on weekends (especially during summer), but early mornings are magic. You’ll see locals launching their boats before dawn, and there’s something pretty peaceful about having coffee while watching the mist come off the water. The playground keeps kids happy, and honestly, the barbecue areas are better maintained than a lot of more expensive places I’ve stayed. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in some cabins, and you’ll definitely hear your neighbors if they’re having a good time – but that kind of adds to the community feel. It’s not a place for a romantic getaway or business meetings, but if you want somewhere your family can actually spread out and enjoy being near the water without breaking the bank, Discovery Parks delivers. Just book early in peak season – word’s getting out about this little spot.

Great kiddies park and really good pool.
The views are lovely and the wildlife gets close before they startle. Great place for kids young and older.
What could be improved: The notice on the park said it opened at 8am but it wasn’t open until 8:30am making our granddaughter miss out on the bouncy pillow before she had to leave for school.
