Discovery Parks – Forster
You know what caught me off guard about Discovery Parks Forster? It’s actually in Tuncurry – which threw me for a loop initially since I was expecting to be right in Forster proper. But honestly, this turned out to be a blessing because you’re tucked away on Aquatic Road where it’s quieter, yet you can still walk to the Forster-Tuncurry bridge in about ten minutes. The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – close enough to everything but far enough from the main tourist chaos.
The park itself has this really welcoming vibe that hits you right when you pull up. I mean, it’s clearly well-maintained without being overly manicured, if that makes sense. The reception staff actually knew the area when I asked about good fishing spots (try the rock wall near the bridge at dawn, by the way), and they weren’t just reciting some script. What really impressed me was how they’d thought through the little things – decent WiFi that actually works, proper outdoor furniture that doesn’t wobble, and parking spots that aren’t sized for matchbox cars. The cabins are clean and functional, though don’t expect luxury resort vibes. It’s more like a really good friend’s beach house where everything just works.
Here’s the thing that’ll matter to most people – you’re literally a stone’s throw from some of the best water activities on the mid-north coast. The lakes are right there for kayaking or just floating around, and when you want proper surf, Forster Beach is maybe a five-minute drive. During school holidays it gets busy (obviously), but even then it never felt crowded or stressful. I actually loved the mix of families and older couples – there’s something for everyone without anyone dominating the space. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you get neighbors who like to chat loudly on their deck at night, you’ll hear it. But honestly, most people seemed pretty considerate. If you’re looking for a solid base to explore the Twin Towns without paying resort prices, this place delivers. It’s got that 8.9 rating for good reason – they’ve figured out how to be consistently good without trying too hard to be fancy.

Rooms were neat and tidy and beds were all made ready to go. Shower stuff all included Lots of kitchen appliances for cooking, cheese grater and a peeler. All things needed to cook was all included in our cabin. Staff were so helpful, we booked another 2 days because we loved the park so much! What could be improved: They need to invest in...

We stayed in one of the river view villas. One of the older ones. The tiles were lifting in the bathroom & very dated. However, the beds were super comfy and the balcony was spectacular!
