Discovery Parks – Barossa Valley
You know what caught me off guard about Discovery Parks in Tanunda? It’s actually got this proper resort feel to it, even though it’s technically a holiday park. I mean, when you’re driving down Barossa Valley Way and first spot it, you might think “oh, another caravan park” – but honestly, this place is doing something different.
The cabins here are genuinely nice, not those cramped little boxes you sometimes get stuck with. I stayed in one of their newer units and was pleasantly surprised by how much space there was – proper kitchen, decent-sized bathroom, and the beds were actually comfortable (you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong). What really sold me though was stepping out in the morning with a coffee and realizing you’re literally surrounded by vineyards. I’m talking rows and rows of vines stretching out in every direction, which honestly makes the whole experience feel a bit more special than your average accommodation.
The location is pretty clever when you think about it – you’re close enough to walk into Tanunda’s main strip for dinner (maybe 10-15 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with any street noise or tourist crowds right outside your door. The kids’ playground area gets a bit lively during school holidays, but it quiets down nicely by evening. And here’s something I appreciated – the management actually seems to care about maintaining the place. The grounds are well-kept, the facilities are clean, and when I had a minor issue with the air conditioning, they sorted it out within an hour.
What makes this spot work so well is that it feels like a proper base for exploring the Barossa, rather than just somewhere to crash. You’ve got plenty of parking (which matters when you’re doing winery tours and coming back at odd hours), the reception folks actually know the area and can point you toward the smaller cellar doors that aren’t overrun with tour buses, and there’s enough space to properly relax between all that wine tasting. I found myself sitting outside most evenings just watching the light change over the vineyard hills – it’s one of those simple pleasures that reminded me why I love this part of South Australia so much.
Sure, it’s not luxury accommodation, and if you’re expecting hotel-style service you might be disappointed. But for what it is – a well-run, comfortable place to stay while you explore one of Australia’s premier wine regions – it really delivers. The fact that it’s consistently rated so well (8.4 is pretty solid) tells you other people are having similar experiences. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly if I was traveling with family or friends who wanted their own space but still wanted to be in the heart of the Barossa.

Loved the comfort of the safari tent. Great bathroom. The adults only area & pool was excellent.

Beautifully presented glamping tents in private area away from rest of the park. Kid free pool for clamping tents.

Shame about other noisy guests who visited as a group. Took away from the peaceful atmosphere of the glamping area.

We had a aircon in cabin but no fan in kids room and it was a very hot weekend. Furniture needs upgrading.

Nice setup and location. Well priced

The sounds travel into room from other neighbours a little too much. The speed bumps and dips were too excessive to the point of being damaging to your car no matter how slow you take them

Staff helpful and friendly and kids always loved the bouncy pillow, pool and splash park. Facilities were clean, Bbq are great easy dinners. Main bed was so comfy, soft. We came at a great time as there was a fundraising event on ..with coffee, breakfast and pizza vans onsite, raffles and live music. Park definitely came alive, and the social vibe...

the room was comfy for what we needed. Beds were comfortable, the cabin was clean and had everything we needed. the kids loved the activities especially the pool and water park. I loved the idea of coffee from the van in the mornings What could be improved: The only annoyance that I found was the sliding doors in our cabin didn't slide properly...
