Discovery Parks – Hadspen
Discovery Parks – Hadspen Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks Hadspen, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a standard roadside park. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming places surprise you the most. Sitting right there at the corner of Main Street and Meander Valley Highway, it’s actually perfectly positioned if you’re exploring northern Tasmania without wanting to deal with Launceston’s city hassles.
The thing about Hadspen is that most people just drive through it on their way somewhere else, which is kind of a shame because this little spot gives you easy access to both the Meander Valley wine region and those gorgeous historic estates like Entally House – I mean, you’re literally five minutes from some seriously impressive colonial architecture. The park itself has that relaxed, unpretentious vibe that I actually prefer over flashier places. Sure, it’s a 3-star setup, but honestly the facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the staff seem to genuinely care about the place rather than just going through the motions. The cabins are comfortable enough (nothing fancy, but you’ll sleep well), and if you’re camping, the sites are properly spaced so you’re not listening to your neighbor’s entire conversation over dinner.
What really sold me on this place was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you can actually hear the Meander River if you walk toward the back of the property, and there’s something pretty magical about having a morning coffee while watching the mist lift off the valley. The location means you can duck into Launceston for supplies or a proper meal (it’s only about 15 minutes), but you’re far enough out that you feel like you’re actually in Tasmania rather than just another generic accommodation. Parking’s never an issue, check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and they’ve got that local knowledge thing down – the reception folks actually knew which wineries were worth visiting and which roads to avoid during busy periods. It’s not going to win any design awards, but sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t cost a fortune and puts you where you need to be. For exploring the Meander Valley or using as a stepping stone to Cradle Mountain, it honestly ticks all the right boxes.

Cosy and very comfortable bungalow for our small family and an excellent price. Loved how there were 2 separate bedrooms, very compact but perfect. Very easy check in and out, got a text message to collect the key with security code as we were late checking in. Very easy to find the room as well as it was clearly marked for us on the map with the...

For the price compared to other accommodation I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable and the amount of amenities in the standard unit was surprising too. A good place to stay near the airport where we needed to catch a plane on the second morning. What could be improved: It would have been handy if the near local IGA was open (think it was...

What could be improved: Advice to shop before arriving. The IGA mini mart shelves were empty.

I smiled looking at the bear from cabin 1 steps at night. What big teeth you have Mr Bear. Not for little ones.

The location was very convenient, being close to Launceston and also it is partly on its way to Devonport which was our ultimate destination. We have often used it as an overnight stay having landed in Launceston around 8.30-9.00 at night. We then have a short drive to Hadspen, a good night sleep and then we are refreshed for our drive to...
