Discovery Parks – Coogee Beach

HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what surprised me about Discovery Parks – Coogee Beach? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street just off Cockburn Road, so you get that beachy vibe without the chaos of being right on the main drag. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Coogee Beach itself, but there’s something nice about having that little buffer zone of Powell Street between you and all the weekend crowds.

The whole setup feels more like a proper holiday park than your typical hotel – think spacious cabins and units scattered around well-maintained grounds rather than cramped hotel rooms stacked on top of each other. Honestly, it works really well for families or anyone who wants a bit more space to spread out. The three-star rating might make you think “basic,” but the 8.1 guest rating tells the real story – people genuinely like staying here because it does the fundamentals right without trying to be fancy. The units I’ve seen are clean and practical, with decent kitchenettes (which, let’s be honest, saves you a fortune when you’re not eating out for every meal). Parking’s straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Coogee on a summer weekend will appreciate.

What really sells this place for me is the location intelligence – you’re close enough to walk to Coogee Beach for your morning swim or sunset beers, but you can also easily explore the coastal walk toward Bondi or duck down to Fremantle when the mood strikes. The local shops along Cockburn Road have everything you need without the tourist markup, and there’s this great fish and chips place about five minutes away that the locals actually use. It gets busy during school holidays (obviously), but even then it doesn’t feel overwhelming because the park layout gives everyone their own little space. I’d say it hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without paying resort prices – perfect for when you want a proper beach holiday but don’t need someone making your bed with fancy towel animals every day.

The beach, the clean accommodation, and the cabin were spacious.

What could be improved: The shower. Kept going cold, and the shower head would not stay up unless holding it. Needs maintenance

Very close to the beach. Good facilities in the room.

What could be improved: On the exit road so a little busy and hard to enjoy our porch.

The location was great, close to the beach and public transport and walking distance to shops.

I enjoyed my stay here but next time I will make sure that my change to a cabin with a verandah is done.

What could be improved: I had changed my booking to have verandah, but this was not changed. I was there for 5 nights and would have liked to have had my front door open - but there wasn’t a screen door in my cabin (other cabins did have one). It looks as though the front door had recently been changed so maybe it was till to be installed. Only a few windows were able to be opened. The ones that could be opened - were opened from the top at an angle and the blinds needed to be completely opened, which really wasn’t a practical design.
The cabin I had slept 6 and had a table and 6 chairs, but no where to sit other than on the bed.
There was a microwave and oven, but no microwave dishes to cook or heat anything up.
There was an ironing board but no iron - this must have been an oversight when cleaning - I was on holiday so didn’t cause a real problem.

I used the laundry and the washing machine kept timing out and so I had to tap my credit card 3 times to get it started - so I paid $15 for one load on washing.
