Cottages On River Road
First Impressions
Pulling up to Cottages On River Road feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away in the redwood country. This three-star property sits right along the Russian River in Guerneville, and honestly, the moment you step out of your car, you can hear the water flowing just beyond the trees. There’s free parking right on-site, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think in this area — I’ve stayed at places where you’re hunting for street spots or paying extra fees.
The Cottages Experience
Each room here is actually its own little cottage, which gives you way more privacy than your typical hotel setup. The rustic charm works really well — we’re talking knotty pine walls and that cozy cabin feel without being overly themed or kitschy. What I appreciated most was how quiet everything stays, even when other guests are around. You know what really sold me though? The way these cottages are positioned among the trees, so you get that genuine forest retreat vibe while still having all the basics you need.
Location and River Access
The location here is genuinely special — guests consistently rate it over 9 out of 10, and couples especially seem to love it. You’re literally steps from the Russian River, which means you can walk down for a morning coffee or evening wine right by the water. Guerneville’s main strip with its shops and restaurants is just a short walk away, but you feel completely removed from any hustle and bustle. I mean, this is wine country after all, so you’ve got Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve practically next door if you want to do some serious tree gazing.
Morning Routine
The continental breakfast setup works perfectly for this kind of place — nothing fancy, but it gets you fueled up for whatever adventure you’re planning. They keep it simple with the usual suspects like pastries, coffee, and fruit, which honestly fits the laid-back vibe here. You can grab your coffee and actually take it down to sit by the river, something you definitely can’t do at most hotels. The whole morning routine just feels more relaxed when you’re not dealing with crowded dining rooms or complicated reservation systems.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it delivers exactly what it promises — a peaceful retreat in nature without any pretense. The combination of river access, forest setting, and that cottage privacy creates something special that couples particularly seem to connect with. You’re getting genuine Russian River charm at a reasonable price point, plus the kind of location that makes you want to extend your stay. It’s not trying to be a fancy resort, and that’s exactly why it succeeds — sometimes you just want a cozy base camp for exploring wine country and redwood forests, with the sound of flowing water as your soundtrack.

The cottages were well located close to the Redwoods and to the town of Guerneville. The cottages were quite well appointed.

Cute property and friendly staff. I was in room number 5, it was nice and comfortable. The continental breakfast was adequate with various options and delicious little breakfast sandwiches. Although I didn’t bring my pet this trip the place was very pet friendly. I didn’t get to experience it due to it rained my whole trip, but they light a fire...

Breakfast was above average for similar lodgings. My wife appreciated the oatmeal and fresh apples and bananas and peanut butter. They offered s’mores, which would have been great over the fire pit on the property, but we were too full from our nice dinner next to a nearby golf course.
Susan
Love it! Such a cute and cozy property. Nice breakfast and staff too.
Karen
