Edgewater Holiday Park
Honestly, Edgewater Holiday Park isn’t going to win any design awards, but there’s something genuinely charming about this laid-back spot on Hastings River Drive that keeps drawing people back. I mean, when you’re pulling up to the entrance, it looks pretty standard – your typical holiday park setup with that slightly dated signage – but once you get settled in, you start to appreciate what they’ve got going on here.
The location is actually pretty sweet, and I don’t just mean because it’s right there on the river (though that doesn’t hurt). You’re about a five-minute drive from Port Macquarie’s town center, which means you can easily duck out for groceries or a proper coffee without dealing with the tourist chaos that hits some of the beachfront places. The Hastings River frontage is the real drawcard though – you know what I love? Sitting out in the evening and just watching the boats drift by. It’s not dramatic or Instagram-perfect, but it’s genuinely relaxing in a way that a lot of fancier places somehow miss. The kids’ playground sits right near the water too, so parents can actually keep an eye on their little ones while sneaking in some peaceful river gazing.
What surprised me most was how well-maintained everything felt for a 3-star park. Sure, some of the cabins have that slightly worn holiday rental vibe – you know, furniture that’s seen better days and bathroom fixtures that probably date back to the early 2000s – but it’s all clean and functional. The staff actually seem to care about the place, which makes a bigger difference than you’d think. Check-in was straightforward (no weird hidden fees or confusing key card systems), and when we had a minor issue with our cabin’s air conditioning, they sorted it out the same day without any fuss. The amenities are pretty standard – pool, BBQ areas, camp kitchen – but they’re well-kept and there’s usually space even during busy periods. I will say the Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy in some of the cabins further from reception, so if you’re planning to work remotely, maybe mention that when booking.
The thing about Edgewater is that it knows exactly what it is – a solid, no-nonsense holiday park that gives families and couples a comfortable base for exploring Port Macquarie without breaking the bank. You’re not paying for marble bathrooms or 24-hour room service, but you’re getting clean accommodation, friendly service, and that river location that somehow makes everything feel more holiday-ish. It’s particularly good if you’ve got kids who just want to run around safely, or if you’re the type who prefers spending your money on activities and eating out rather than fancy hotel amenities you’ll barely use. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s doing the fundamentals well without any major surprises, good or bad.

Our cabin was nice and close to the jetty. What could be improved: Would have liked a few more kitchen items in our cabin. A sharp knife (one supplied was blunt!) and a serated knife would be handy, plus a few more dishes & salad bowls. There was a microwave but no microwave dishes or bowls. I wanted to heat some baked beans for breakfast, but...
