HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what caught me off guard about Caravan by the beach? It’s actually a static caravan that someone has completely transformed into something surprisingly sophisticated. I mean, when I first pulled up to Brynowen holiday park on that narrow lane, I was expecting your typical seaside accommodation – but this place has genuine character that most boutique hotels would kill for.

The location is honestly perfect if you want that proper Welsh coast experience without the crowds of Aberystwyth (which is just a quick drive south). Borth itself is this wonderfully unpretentious stretch of beach where locals still outnumber tourists, and you can actually hear the waves from inside the caravan – especially at night when the holiday park settles down. The owners have done something clever here, taking what could be a basic static caravan and turning it into something that feels more like a beach house. The interior design actually works – they’ve managed to make the space feel open and airy despite the obvious size constraints, and there’s proper attention to detail in the fixtures and fittings. Sure, you’re still essentially staying in a caravan park, but it’s a well-maintained one, and honestly, the other holiday makers tend to be families who quiet down early.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve embraced the quirkiness rather than trying to hide it. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t pretend to be a five-star resort but still delivers comfort and style. The kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped (I mean, better than some London flats I’ve seen), and the outdoor space gives you that holiday park community feel without being intrusive. Parking is right there – no dragging luggage across massive hotel lobbies – and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. The beach access is genuinely excellent; you’re talking a few minutes’ walk through the park and you’re on that long stretch of sand that goes on for miles. Borth isn’t trying to be trendy, which is exactly why it works. You’ve got the basics covered in the village – decent pub food, a small shop for essentials, and some surprisingly good walking if you head toward the RSPB reserve just north of town. The train line runs right behind the village (yes, you’ll hear it occasionally, but it’s not constant), and it connects you to the Cambrian Coast line if you fancy exploring further up toward Snowdonia. I’d say this works brilliantly for couples wanting something different, or families who appreciate a bit more style than your average holiday park accommodation. Just don’t expect hotel-style services – this is more about the experience and the location than being waited on, which frankly makes it more authentic.
