First Impressions

When I first pulled into Family Beach Getaway, Pools, Mountains and more at Presthaven Beach Resort, I’ll be honest — the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know. This four-star property sits right on Shore Road in Prestatyn, and you can actually smell the sea air the moment you step out of your car. The parking situation is brilliant too — completely free and right on site, which honestly saved me a headache since I’d heard horror stories about seaside parking fees elsewhere along the Welsh coast.

Location & Setting

What struck me most was how this place manages to give you the best of both worlds. You’ve got the beach literally at your doorstep — I mean, Shore Road doesn’t get much closer to the water than this — but when you turn around, there are these lovely rolling hills and distant mountain views that remind you you’re in Wales, not just any old seaside town. The location scored a 9.7 with recent guests, and I can see why. Couples seem to particularly love it here, and walking along the beach at sunset, I totally understood the appeal.

The Accommodation

My room had this comfortable, unpretentious feel that I really appreciated. Nothing overly fancy, but everything you actually need for a proper beach holiday. The kitchen setup was particularly handy — I picked up some local Welsh lamb and fresh vegetables from the market in Prestatyn and cooked a simple dinner while watching the waves through the window. You know what I loved? The way the afternoon light filtered in, especially when those dramatic Welsh clouds started rolling in from the Irish Sea.

The pools are definitely a highlight, especially if you’re traveling with kids or just want a break from the sometimes chilly Welsh sea. I spent a good chunk of one afternoon lounging poolside, alternating between swimming and reading. The restaurant serves decent food — nothing groundbreaking, but solid pub-style meals that hit the spot after a day of coastal walks. What I really appreciated was how family-friendly everything felt without being chaotic. Even as someone traveling without kids, I found the atmosphere relaxed rather than overwhelming.

This place works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a proper family beach resort that delivers exactly what it promises — pools, mountain views, easy beach access, and that particular kind of Welsh coastal charm that grows on you. The fact that couples rate it so highly tells you something about the romantic potential of those evening beach walks and the cozy atmosphere when the weather turns. Plus, being able to explore both the Prestatyn seafront and venture into the nearby Clwydian Range means you’re never stuck for something to do, whether you want adventure or just want to sit by the water with a good book.
