Cabañas Raupa
You know what struck me first about Cabañas Raupa? It’s tucked away on Calle Miru – and honestly, “sin numero” (without number) is pretty much perfect for Easter Island, where half the streets feel like they exist in their own universe anyway. This place has that rare quality where you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something locals might actually recommend, not just another cookie-cutter hotel.
The cabañas themselves are surprisingly well thought out – I mean, we’re talking about a place that gets a 9.6 rating, and after staying there, I actually get why. The owners clearly understand that people come to Rapa Nui for the experience, not to hide in their room, so everything feels designed around that. The beds are proper comfortable (which matters more than you’d think after long days hiking around Rano Raraku), and there’s this attention to small details that you don’t always find in remote places. Like, the water pressure is actually decent – sounds silly, but trust me, it’s not guaranteed everywhere on the island. The whole setup feels more like staying at someone’s thoughtfully designed home than a typical hotel, which works perfectly for the island’s vibe.
What really sets this place apart though is the location and the genuine local feel. You’re right in Hanga Roa but not in the touristy center where cruise ship passengers cluster around – it’s more where actual life happens. Walking to the main drag takes maybe five minutes, but you can also easily wander toward the coast or grab empanadas from local spots that don’t make it into guidebooks. The staff actually know the island (not just the standard tour recommendations), and they’ll point you toward things like the best time to catch sunset at Tahai without the crowds, or which days the local market has the freshest fish. Parking isn’t really an issue – this is Easter Island, after all – but if you rent a bike or scooter, which honestly makes more sense here anyway, there’s plenty of space. The whole property has this relaxed energy that matches the island’s rhythm once you get away from the airport arrival chaos. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other travelers over morning coffee, sharing stories about which moai sites hit differently at sunrise, and you leave feeling like you actually experienced Rapa Nui rather than just checked it off a list.

Peaceful and quiet tropical paradise. The cabana was perfect and clean, bed was comfortable and the location close (5-10min. walk) to the main strip and coastal restaurants. Ximena is a friendly and kind host who speaks excellent English. What could be improved: Nothing not to like.... I guess if you're one who likes to sleep in the crowing...
