Adelaide Caravan Park – Aspen Holiday Parks
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Adelaide Caravan Park on Richmond Street, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s technically a caravan park, so I figured it’d be pretty basic. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The moment you walk into reception, there’s this genuinely friendly vibe that feels refreshingly real – none of that overly polished hotel chain nonsense. The staff here actually seem to know the area, and I’m talking proper local knowledge, not just rehearsed tourist spiel.
What really got me was how well they’ve thought about the little things that matter when you’re traveling. The facilities are clean (I mean properly clean, not just surface-level), and honestly, for a 3-star place, they punch above their weight. The powered sites are spacious enough that you’re not practically sleeping in your neighbor’s annex, which – trust me – matters more than you think until you’ve experienced otherwise. I stayed during one of those typical Adelaide autumn weeks where the weather can’t make up its mind, and having solid amenities nearby was a lifesaver. The camp kitchen setup is actually functional too, with decent hot water pressure and enough bench space that you don’t feel like you’re playing Tetris with your cooking gear.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there – Richmond Street puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to the city center without dealing with all the tourist chaos. You can actually walk to some decent local cafes (there’s this little place about ten minutes down that does proper flat whites), and getting into the CBD is straightforward without the nightmare parking situation you’d face staying right in town. The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does offer is solid and reliable. Sure, it’s not luxury accommodation, but sometimes you just want a place that works well, doesn’t cost a fortune, and where the people running it actually care about whether you have a decent stay. I’d definitely go back, especially if I was doing one of those longer South Australia road trips where you need a proper base to sort yourself out before hitting the wine regions or heading further out.

The cabin had a very small fridge. The bowls and plates were very small so had to go buy bigger plates for our dinner and bowls for breakfast
