Zeehan Bush Camp
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Zeehan Bush Camp on Hurst Street, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s literally called a “bush camp,” right? But you know what really surprised me about this place? It’s got this authentic Tasmanian mining town vibe that you just can’t fake, and somehow they’ve managed to make it genuinely comfortable without losing that rugged character.
Zeehan itself is this fascinating little town that most people drive right through on their way to Strahan or Cradle Mountain, which is honestly their loss. The Bush Camp sits right in the heart of it all – you can walk to the West Coast Heritage Centre in about two minutes (seriously, time yourself), and there’s this great little bakery just around the corner that does proper meat pies. The rooms are clean and straightforward, nothing fancy but everything works. The heating actually gets toasty, which matters more than you’d think when that Tasmanian wind starts howling off the coast. I stayed in one of their cabin-style units and could hear the possums scrambling around on the roof at night – some people might find that annoying, but I thought it was kind of charming in a “you’re definitely not in the city anymore” way.
What really sets this place apart is the staff actually know the area inside and out. The owner pointed me toward this incredible hiking trail that leads to old mining ruins – not the touristy stuff, but the real deal where you can still see rusted equipment scattered through the bush. You won’t find that in your typical travel brochure. The parking situation is dead simple (just pull up wherever), and check-in felt more like chatting with locals than dealing with hotel bureaucracy. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy – this is rural Tasmania, after all – but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on what you’re after. For the price point and the genuine bush experience, it’s hard to complain about an 8.5 rating. If you’re the type who needs marble bathrooms and room service, maybe look elsewhere. But if you want to actually experience what makes this corner of Tassie special, rather than just passing through it, Zeehan Bush Camp delivers something you can’t get at the chain hotels.
Premium village resorts combine the charm of traditional village life with modern luxury accommodations, creating unique destinations where travelers can immerse themselves in local culture and relaxation.

We stayed in a cabin & it was very clean & cosy. It had everything we needed for one night stay. The bed was very comfy & we had a great nights sleep. Would definitely recommend.

The lack of hand rail at the step going in & out of the cabin.

Nice quiet cabin away from town What could be improved: Camp management didn't like us walking around the camp without their permission. We were the only ones there, and I took a stroll around the empty tent camps. Within seconds, the camp commandant appeared to tell me that it was forbidden. Didn't leave me with a good impression of a relaxed...
