First Impressions
You know what hits you first when you arrive at Yosemite Lakes Hillside Yurt 1? It’s the silence — well, not complete silence, but that good kind where you hear birds and wind through trees instead of traffic. This four-star yurt sits tucked into the hillside on Hardin Flat Road, and honestly, the setting feels almost too peaceful to be real. The circular structure with its distinctive domed roof creates this cozy, almost magical atmosphere that’s part camping, part boutique accommodation. The natural surroundings provide an immersive escape from everyday life.
The Yurt Experience
Inside, the room surprises you with how spacious it feels — the curved walls and skylight make everything seem bigger than you’d expect. There’s a proper bed, seating area, and all the essentials you need, but it’s the little touches that matter here. The way morning light filters through the dome window above, casting these soft patterns on the wooden floor creates an unforgettable ambiance. The furnishings strike that perfect balance between rustic charm and actual comfort, making your stay both authentic and enjoyable.
Location and Natural Setting
What really sets this place apart is where it sits in relation to Yosemite. You’re close enough to easily reach the park’s main attractions, but far enough away to escape the crowds completely. The hillside location gives you these glimpses of the surrounding landscape that change throughout the day — morning mist, afternoon golden light, that sort of thing. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and couples especially seem to love the romantic isolation it offers. The proximity to natural wonders makes this an ideal base for exploration.
Outdoor Living
The outdoor space around the yurt is where you’ll probably spend more time than you planned. There’s a fire pit area that becomes the natural gathering spot once the sun starts setting, and the deck gives you this elevated view over the valley below. You can actually see stars here — real ones, not just the brightest few that make it through city light pollution. The surrounding trees provide just enough privacy while still letting you feel connected to the landscape. Evening gatherings around the fire create lasting memories.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t your typical accommodation, and that’s exactly the point. People come here when they want something different from the standard hotel experience — something that feels more connected to the natural environment they came to Yosemite to see. The yurt manages to be comfortable without feeling disconnected from the outdoors, which is honestly harder to pull off than it sounds. Couples particularly appreciate how the unique setting creates these spontaneous romantic moments, whether it’s morning coffee on the deck or evening conversations by the fire. The experience offers genuine connection to nature.

Very cozy Yurt close to Yosemite entrance. Enough room for four people.
Maria
The Yurts gave us a feel of being near nature but
still with the comfort of a house. It is very near a gas station and Groceries.
Sarah
The yurt was very fun to stay in and close to two of the park entrances. It was the perfect mix of camping and the amenities of a modern cabin. The swamp cooler and ceiling fan (cool skylight!) kept us cool all day and the gas fireplace kept us cozy at night. The kitchen had all you needed to make basic meals (fridge, hobs, microwave, no oven)...
