Yarrawonga Holiday Park
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of holiday parks around Victoria, and Yarrawonga Holiday Park on Burley Road actually surprised me in the best way. You know what I mean when you roll up to a place and immediately get that “oh good, this isn’t going to be sketchy” feeling? That’s exactly what happened here. The grounds are genuinely well-maintained – not that fake-perfect resort vibe, but more like someone actually cares about keeping things nice without going overboard.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to create this relaxed family atmosphere without it feeling chaotic. I mean, yes, there are kids around (it’s a holiday park, after all), but the layout is smart enough that you can find quiet spots if that’s what you’re after. The cabins are honestly better than I expected – proper comfortable beds, decent kitchenettes that actually have everything you need, and the air conditioning works properly, which is crucial during those scorching Yarrawonga summers. The powered sites are spacious too, if you’re bringing a caravan or motorhome. Parking was never an issue, even during the busy Easter period when I was there – they’ve clearly thought about traffic flow, which sounds boring but makes a huge difference when you’re lugging bags around.
Here’s the thing about Yarrawonga though – it’s not just about where you’re staying, it’s about being right there on Lake Mulwala. The holiday park puts you within walking distance of the lake foreshore, and honestly, those morning walks along the water with a coffee from town are pretty hard to beat. You’re also close enough to the main drag that you can easily grab groceries or hit up one of the decent pubs for dinner without needing to drive everywhere. The staff were genuinely helpful too – not in that over-the-top hospitality way, but they knew their stuff about local fishing spots and where to get the best coffee in town (hint: it’s not at the first place you’ll see). I did notice it can get a bit lively on weekend evenings, especially during school holidays, but nothing too crazy – just families having a good time. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, the pool area is actually pleasant to hang around, and there’s enough space that it never feels cramped. For a 4-star holiday park, it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises when you arrive.
