Wigbay Loch View 28

Wig Bay Holiday Park Loch Ryan, Kirkcolm, DG9 0PS, United Kingdom

Guest reviews: 7.9

HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Wigbay Loch View 28, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It’s tucked away in this holiday park right on Loch Ryan, and honestly, the whole setup feels more like stumbling onto someone’s well-kept secret than checking into a typical hotel. The place doesn’t have those official star ratings you see plastered everywhere, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what makes a spot memorable.

The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re literally looking out at Loch Ryan – and I mean proper water views, not some glimpse between buildings. Kirkcolm isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis (which is sort of the point), but you’re close enough to Stranraer if you need proper shops or restaurants. What really got me was how quiet it gets in the evenings. I mean, genuinely quiet – just the sound of water lapping and maybe some gulls if you’re lucky. The kind of quiet that makes you realize how much noise you live with normally. Parking’s straightforward, which sounds boring but trust me, after driving around some of these Scottish coastal roads, you appreciate not having to squeeze into some impossible space.

The accommodation itself feels more like staying in someone’s thoughtfully designed retreat than a cookie-cutter hotel room. Everything’s clean and well-maintained, though it’s got that slightly lived-in feel that makes you actually relax instead of worrying about touching anything. The views are genuinely spectacular – I found myself just standing at the window with my morning coffee, watching the light change across the loch. You can see clear across to the Irish coast on a good day, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. The whole holiday park setting means you’ve got space to wander around, and honestly, it’s nice to have that freedom instead of being stuck in some urban hotel corridor. I did notice it can get a bit busier during school holidays – families with kids making the most of the outdoor space – but even then, it never felt crowded or chaotic. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be fancy or pretentious, just offering something genuinely pleasant in a stunning location. If you’re looking for room service and concierge desks, this isn’t your place. But if you want to wake up to proper Scottish scenery and actually unwind for a bit, well – you could do a lot worse than this little spot on Loch Ryan.

Great location for a Stranraer work stay-over. Handy to have a full kitchen with freezer and oven for meals after work (although I hadn't though to bring cleaning utensils/materials/teatowels). Great location for a Stranraer work stay-over. Handy to have a full kitchen with freezer and oven for meals after work (although I hadn't though to bring cleaning utensils/materials/teatowels). Nice hot shower, and comfortable lounge. Nice and cozy with heaters if they were needed. Plenty of DVDs and books. Although a fairly large site, and located near the reception/bar, there was no intrusive noise in the evening, which made for a decent sleep. PIR outside light at the doors. Lovely view across the water.
