Vintners Retreat

55 Rapaura Road, Renwick, 7243 Blenheim, New Zealand
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Vintners Retreat on Rapaura Road – the whole area is pretty much wall-to-wall vineyards, and you know how some wine country accommodations can be a bit… pretentious? But this place actually gets it right. The moment you walk in, there’s this relaxed sophistication that doesn’t make you feel like you need to whisper or worry about your travel clothes.
What really struck me about staying here is how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being stuffy. The rooms have these gorgeous vineyard views (well, obviously – you’re literally surrounded by Sauvignon Blanc vines), and on quiet mornings you can hear absolutely nothing except maybe a tractor in the distance. The beds are seriously comfortable – I mean, I’m picky about mattresses, and I slept better here than I have in months. There’s something about the way they’ve designed the spaces too; lots of natural materials and these big windows that make you feel connected to all that Marlborough countryside. The staff know their stuff about local wineries, which is clutch because there are literally dozens within a few minutes’ drive. I got some excellent recommendations for smaller producers I never would have found on my own.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the region without dealing with Blenheim’s traffic (though let’s be honest, Blenheim traffic isn’t exactly Manhattan). Cloudy Bay is practically next door, and you can walk to several cellar doors if you’re feeling ambitious after a tasting session. The only minor thing – and this is really nitpicking – is that you’ll want a car here. It’s not walkable to restaurants or anything like that, but that’s sort of the point. You’re here for the wine country experience, the peace and quiet, maybe some serious relaxation on your private deck with a glass of something local. I’d definitely come back, especially during harvest season when there’s this amazing energy in all the vineyards. Just book ahead if you’re planning a visit between February and April – everyone wants to be here when the vines are doing their thing.

Perfectly situated between the many excellent wineries in the area, the Vintners Retreat offers the option of easy cycling from cellar door to cellar door. The property itself was excellent. I particularly appreciated the powerful shower and the streaming options on the TV.

We booked the 2 bedroom 2 bathroom stables ( number 6) which had a king bedroom upstairs with ensuite shower and spa bath , & a downstairs king bedroom with ensuite shower. The semi detached house is just lovely , set in a private complex of houses looking over the Vineyards. The manager at reception was helpful regarding our stay & @ the area...
Michael from United Kingdom (17 March 2025)
So spacious - a whole three bedroom cottage just for us. Made coming home difficult as we don't each have our own dressing room. Great location for wine tours.
What could be improved: The quality of some of the kitchen kit could have been better - but this is a detail.
Martin from United Kingdom (13 March 2025)
Excellent and helpful manager
What could be improved: Nothing
Jackie from United States (20 February 2025)
The view into the vineyards was gorgeous. Also got to see amazing sunsets. We are a group of eight so having the side by side town homes where we could share barbecues also was excellent
What could be improved: Nothing. It worked perfect for a group of eight people
Heinrich from United States (9 February 2025)
Everything was good.
Andy from New Zealand (9 February 2025)
Comfortable and spacious accommodation in the heart of the vineyards, and steps away from some. Quiet and peaceful.
What could be improved: Nothing.
David from United States (9 February 2025)
Great location and accommodations in Marlborough wine country!
What could be improved: We specifically booked a one-level villa six months ago, but when we checked in we were assigned to a two-story unit. Manager offered to let us move to a one-level unit after one night, but since we were already settled we made do with the two level unit.
