Village Vacances de Chantonnay
Village Vacances de Chantonnay Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Village Vacances de Chantonnay, honestly, the name says it all — this really does feel like stumbling upon a charming French village rather than checking into a typical hotel. Set in the peaceful Vendée countryside, this three-star property sits on Le Champ du Loup, which translates to “Wolf’s Field” (though don’t worry, the only wildlife you’ll encounter are friendly birds and maybe some curious rabbits). The whole place has this relaxed, almost rustic charm that immediately makes you slow down and breathe deeper.
Location & Setting
You know what struck me most about Chantonnay? It’s perfectly positioned for couples who want to escape without being completely isolated — and apparently I’m not alone in thinking this, since couples consistently rate the location 8.4 out of 10. The village itself is quintessentially French, with those narrow streets and stone buildings you see in postcards, but you’re still close enough to larger towns if you need anything. The surrounding countryside is absolutely gorgeous, especially in late spring when everything’s green and blooming. There’s free parking right on site, which honestly saved me from the usual French village parking headaches.
Accommodations
My room was simple but comfortable — exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star property in rural France. The furnishings felt authentically French without being overly themed, and everything was spotlessly clean. What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night; you can actually hear the countryside settling down rather than traffic or city noise. The windows open wide (a small thing, but I love fresh air when I sleep), and the morning light filtering through was just perfect for lazy wake-ups.
Dining Experience
The continental breakfast deserves a mention — it’s served in a bright, airy space that feels more like a village café than a hotel dining room. Fresh croissants, local jams, good coffee, and that particular French attention to simple things done well. I mean, it’s not elaborate, but there’s something satisfying about starting your day with proper French breakfast basics. The restaurant area has this welcoming atmosphere where you’ll likely end up chatting with other guests, which adds to that village community feeling.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both peaceful and engaging. Recent guests have rated the location 8.5 out of 10, and after spending time here, I totally understand why. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely disconnect — no pressure to be anywhere or do anything specific, but plenty of beautiful countryside to explore if you’re feeling adventurous. The staff treats you like a welcomed neighbor rather than just another guest, and there’s this authentic French village experience that you simply can’t manufacture. For couples especially, it offers that perfect balance of romance and relaxation without any pretense.
Premium village resorts combine the charm of traditional village life with modern luxury accommodations, creating unique destinations where travelers can immerse themselves in local culture and relaxation.

It was perfect for a quick lay over. Staff were friendly, the room was modern and they had a great outdoor space for the kids.

Great location not far from the auto route. Very handy for us for a nights stop over with 3 older kids who were ready to get out of the car, swim, and play with everything on offer. Clean tidy and efficient, and lovely friendly staff.

The swimming pool was a treat.

Lovely and quiet even at peak time.
Beautiful location.

We did not see anyone all the time we were there. The swimming pool was not open and we had no bedding even though I had asked for it. It was fortunate we took some food for the morning as there was no way of getting breakfast.
It was clean and comfortable and practical but disappointing service

Nice little holiday village with friendly helpful staff

Overpriced and outdated. Pictures certainly did not match the room we were given. It had a fishy odour.
