Sunrise – Beautiful lakeside caravan

HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Sunrise – Beautiful lakeside caravan” listed as a boutique hotel, I was skeptical. But this little gem tucked away on Broadway Lane completely changed my perspective on what accommodation can be. It’s not your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly what makes it brilliant.
The moment you arrive in South Cerney, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. This isn’t some touristy caravan park – it’s actually a thoughtfully designed retreat right on the water’s edge. The caravan itself has been transformed into something that honestly feels more like a cozy lakeside cabin than what you’d expect. You wake up to actual sunrise views over the lake (hence the name, I suppose), and the morning light hitting the water is… well, it’s the kind of thing that makes you want to just sit there with your coffee for way longer than planned. The sound of water lapping against the shore becomes this constant, gentle background that you don’t realize you’ve missed until you’re back in the city dealing with traffic noise again.
What struck me most was how the owners have managed to pack genuine comfort into such a compact space without making it feel cramped. The interior design actually works – there’s proper storage, a surprisingly functional kitchenette, and the bed is comfortable enough that you forget you’re in what’s technically a caravan. The bathroom situation is better than some London hotels I’ve stayed in, if I’m being honest. You’re basically right on the Cotswold Water Park, which means you can walk to other lakes and nature reserves without needing to drive anywhere. Parking is straightforward (thank god), and the whole Broadway Lane area is quiet enough that you’ll sleep properly.
The 8.4 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be fancy in a traditional sense, but it delivers on what it promises. You know what really sold me though? The little touches that show someone actually thought about the guest experience. Proper blackout curtains for those summer mornings when the sun comes up ridiculously early, hooks in practical places for your towels, and a decent coffee setup that doesn’t require an engineering degree to operate. The check-in process is refreshingly simple – no corporate nonsense, just clear instructions and someone you can actually reach if something goes wrong.
If you’re looking for room service and a concierge, this obviously isn’t your place. But if you want to disconnect a bit, enjoy some proper nature, and experience the Cotswolds without the tourist crowds of places like Bourton-on-the-Water, this works perfectly. South Cerney itself is charming in that understated English way – you’ve got a decent pub within walking distance, and you’re close enough to Cirencester if you need proper shops or restaurants. I’d definitely book this again, especially during spring or early autumn when the weather’s good but you’re not competing with summer holiday crowds.
