Sun Outdoors Lake Travis
First Impressions
Pulling up to Sun Outdoors Lake Travis on Hudson Bend Road, you immediately get that “we’re really doing this” feeling — you know, when you realize you’ve actually escaped the city for something genuinely different. This four-star resort sits right on the shores of Lake Travis, and honestly, the setting alone makes you understand why couples rate this place so highly. The property has that relaxed, outdoorsy vibe that feels authentic rather than manufactured, which is refreshing when so many places try too hard to be “rustic.”
The Accommodations
The room options here range from cozy cabins to spacious RV sites, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well-appointed everything felt. Each cabin comes with a full kitchen, which actually saves you money since you’re not tied to eating out for every meal — plus there’s something satisfying about making coffee while looking out at the lake. The interiors strike that perfect balance between comfortable and practical, with enough space to spread out but cozy enough that you feel like you’re truly getting away from it all.
Lake Life and Activities
Here’s what makes this place special — Lake Travis isn’t just a backdrop, it’s basically your front yard. The resort has direct lake access, so you can literally walk from your cabin to the water in minutes. I mean, where else can you wake up, grab your coffee, and be fishing or swimming before most people have even checked their phones? The lake stays warm most of the year, and the swimming area feels safe and well-maintained. There’s also boat rentals right on-site, which beats driving around looking for a marina.
Dining and Amenities
The on-site restaurant serves up solid comfort food with lake views — nothing fancy, but exactly what you want after a day on the water. What I really appreciated was the general store stocked with essentials, because let’s be honest, you always forget something important. Parking is never an issue here, which might sound minor until you’ve dealt with crowded lake destinations where you’re circling for twenty minutes just to find a spot. The pool area offers a nice alternative to the lake, and there’s plenty of green space for kids to run around safely.
Why Guests Love It
The location really is the star here — Hudson Bend puts you close enough to Austin that you can make a day trip if you want, but far enough out that you feel like you’re in a completely different world. Couples especially seem to love the combination of outdoor adventure and genuine relaxation, without the pretense you sometimes get at more upscale resorts. The staff clearly knows the area well and can point you toward the best swimming spots or hiking trails that aren’t overrun with crowds. It’s the kind of place where you can be as active or as lazy as you want, and both feel perfectly right.
Each resort village provides a unique blend of privacy and community, where guests enjoy villa-style accommodations while having access to shared amenities and social experiences.

Adria
Everything was fairly clean. Loved the storage in the cottages.
Jaap
Great location, clean and you could park directly in front of your place. There was daily trash-pickup too (although you can do it yourself too); airco's worked great - important with the hot weather. There were also a lot of facilities on premise, like a swimming pool, gym, entertainment loft and a small shop.

Clean grounds, property well cared for and quiet.

Location was a perfect distance away from the city while being closer to the lake. Dining, liquor, and a bar down the street was very convenient. The cabin was very well kept, had everything we could need, and was spacious and comfortable. The price was also reasonable.
David
Nice environment and swimming pool area. Quiet, clean, and enough activities for the kids.
Daniel
What a wonderful place to view the eclipse. Everyone staying there was so friendly. We do not have a pet, but we so enjoyed watching all the dogs enjoying the big dog park across from us. The grounds are very clean and well kept up all over the park. The laundry facilities were very nice. Folks were sure enjoying the pool and clubhouse.
Jennifer
The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and professional. Nice pool and hot tub.

Kitchen was well equipped but would have ben handy to have a tin opener! Living room was decent enough size to relax in as was having a table and chairs outside and it being a self contaned unit. Decent sized parking area for a large vehicle. Site was quite early evening, didn't really hear other guests at all.
