Armidale Tourist Park
You know what caught me off guard about Armidale Tourist Park? It’s actually way more polished than the name suggests. I mean, when you hear “tourist park,” you’re probably picturing basic cabins and tired facilities, but this place sits on Grafton Road with the kind of neat landscaping that tells you someone really cares about the details.
The location is honestly perfect if you know Armidale at all β you’re close enough to walk into town for dinner (though it’s a decent walk, maybe 15 minutes), but far enough out that you don’t get the weekend noise from the pubs. The University of New England is just down the road, which explains why the place feels surprisingly well-maintained and why there’s decent WiFi throughout. I stayed during autumn when the whole area turns into this gorgeous tapestry of gold and red β the New England region really lives up to its name that time of year, and from the park you can actually see the hills change color as the season shifts.
What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to balance that country hospitality with actual modern amenities. The powered sites are generous (you’re not parked on top of your neighbor), and honestly, the shower blocks are cleaner than some hotels I’ve stayed in. There’s this communal kitchen area that gets busy around dinner time β mostly families and grey nomads sharing cooking tips and travel stories. The staff genuinely know the area well, too. When I mentioned wanting to see the waterfalls, they didn’t just point me toward the obvious Wollomombi Falls β they told me about Dangar Falls and how to time it right after rain for the best photos. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that corporate rigmarole, just real people who seem to actually live in the area and can tell you where to get the best coffee in town (it’s at Goldfish Bowl, by the way, not the touristy spots).
The 4-star rating feels about right β it’s not luxury, but it’s definitely a step above your basic caravan park. I’d say the 7.9 guest rating probably reflects what I experienced: solid facilities, friendly service, but maybe not quite the “wow factor” that pushes places into the 8.5+ range. The cabins looked well-kept from the outside, though I was in my own van, and parking was never an issue even when the place seemed pretty full. If you’re exploring the New England region or need a base for checking out the university town vibe, this place gets the fundamentals right without any pretense β which, honestly, is exactly what you want after a long day of driving through country NSW.

We were lucky to get an upgrade to a 3 bedroom cabin. Two toilets and plenty of room for my family of 5. I appreciated the undercover carpark next to the unit and the large outdoor eating area. Plenty of towels and linen. After hours check in was easy. What could be improved: The bathroom could do with a bit of maintenance. The shower door was a...
