Sky by the sea

HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Sky by the Sea being in a holiday park, I was a bit skeptical. Holiday parks in the UK can be… well, let’s just say they’re not always what you’d call sophisticated. But this place? It’s actually something special, and I mean that in the best possible way.
The location is pure Whitstable magic – you’re literally steps from the beach, and I’m talking about the good bit of coastline where you can actually hear the waves properly at night. The hotel sits within Seaview Holiday Park, which sounds a bit caravan-and-chips, but honestly, it works. You get this interesting mix of seaside nostalgia with genuinely thoughtful design touches that feel more like a boutique hideaway than your typical coastal accommodation. The rooms have this lovely understated vibe – think clean lines and sea-inspired colors without going overboard on the nautical theme (thank god, because ship wheels and rope detailing can get old fast). What really got me was the attention to small details that actually matter, like proper blackout curtains and decent water pressure, plus windows that frame the sea views just right.
You know what surprised me most? The food scene around here is brilliant, and being at Sky by the Sea puts you right in the thick of it. You can walk to the famous Whitstable oyster bars – and I mean actually walk, not that “short five-minute drive” nonsense you usually get. The Harbour Market is practically on your doorstep, perfect for grabbing fresh crab or those incredible local oysters. Mornings are particularly lovely because you catch the fishing boats coming in while most of the day-trippers are still having their breakfast elsewhere. The hotel doesn’t try to compete with all this local character – instead, it sort of enhances it. Staff actually know their stuff about the area too, which makes a real difference when you want recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. Parking is sorted (always a relief in seaside towns), and despite being in a holiday park setting, it never felt chaotic or overly family-oriented in that exhausting way some coastal places can get. The whole setup has this relaxed confidence about it – like they know they’ve got something good going on without needing to shout about it. That 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there, because it’s one of those places that just gets the fundamentals right while adding enough personality to stick in your memory long after you’ve packed up and headed home.
