Sandhurst Motel
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Sandhurst Motel on Frankston-Dandenong Road, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s one of those classic Australian roadside motels that’s been around the block, but you know what? Sometimes those places surprise you, and this one actually did.
The thing about Carrum Downs is that it’s not exactly tourist central – you’re sort of between everything, which is actually pretty perfect if you ask me. You’ve got easy access to the peninsula beaches (Frankston’s maybe fifteen minutes away), but you’re also close enough to Melbourne that you don’t feel completely cut off from civilization. The motel sits right on the main drag, so there’s a bit of road noise during the day, but honestly, it settles down by evening. I mean, it’s not dead quiet, but nothing that decent curtains and maybe some white noise can’t handle. The parking situation is straightforward – no hunting around for spots or feeding meters, which is more than I can say for half the places closer to the city.
What really won me over was how genuinely functional everything felt. The rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they’re clean and actually thoughtfully laid out – like someone who travels for work designed them. Good lighting by the desk, proper hangers in the closet (not those useless ones attached to the rod), and the shower pressure is surprisingly decent. The staff at check-in were refreshingly normal people who seemed to actually know the area – they pointed me toward a decent coffee spot just down the road that I never would have found otherwise. It’s that kind of local knowledge that makes the difference between a forgettable stay and one where you feel like you’re getting the inside scoop. The whole place has this unpretentious vibe that I found pretty relaxing after dealing with some of the stuffier places I’d stayed at earlier in my trip. Plus, if you’re planning to explore the Dandenong Ranges or head down to the Mornington Peninsula, you’re positioned really well here – better than being stuck in Melbourne traffic trying to get out to those areas during busy times.
Experience exceptional vacation village resorts that feature spacious villas, recreational facilities, and personalized services designed to create memorable family holidays and romantic getaways.

Bit noisy so close to the road, but it wasn't a big problem.
Shower floor leaked outside door when tap was left dripping a bit. Okay otherwise.

The room was better then expected, the bedding was so cosy I wish a had it at home.
The showers were perfect didn't need to wait to long for hot water and the lay out was nice.

The location of the TV made it weird to watch anything as you couldn't turn it to face the bed.

Overall experience of staying here was great. Comfortable bedding, linen, spacious rooms & bathrooms. What could be improved: No water bottles or water taps provided to refill. Only option is to fill up from sink taps which is not ideal. Also there's no staff at the reception, have to call them (number mentioned on booking.com won't work, have to...
