Sometimes the places that surprise you end up being the ones you remember most. This little gem sits right on the edge of the Solway Firth, and I mean *right* on the edge – you can literally hear the waves from inside, which is either going to be your favorite thing ever or keep you awake (though honestly, after a day exploring the area, most people sleep like babies).

The caravan itself is actually really thoughtfully done. None of that cramped, plastic-fantastic feeling you’d expect – someone clearly put effort into making this feel like a proper retreat rather than just a place to crash. The sea views are legit spectacular, especially if you catch the sunset over the water. Southerness isn’t exactly a bustling resort town, which is sort of the point. It’s got that end-of-the-world feeling that the Scottish coast does so well, where you can walk for miles along the beach and maybe see a handful of other people. The holiday village has its own little community vibe – there’s a shop for basics, and honestly, the fish and chips aren’t terrible, though if you’re feeling fancy, Dumfries is about twenty minutes inland with proper restaurants.

What really sells this place is the location’s flexibility. You’re close enough to Caerlaverock Castle (about fifteen minutes) to do the tourist thing, but far enough from anywhere busy that you can properly disconnect if that’s what you’re after. Parking’s never an issue, check-in was surprisingly smooth, and the whole setup just works.
