HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Rio Stratford-Upon-Avon, I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into. The address says caravan park, which had me wondering if I’d accidentally booked some kind of glamping situation, but this place is actually something pretty special. It’s tucked away on Warwick Road, and you know what? That location is quietly brilliant. You’re far enough from the tourist madness around Henley Street and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre that you can actually sleep at night, but close enough that a fifteen-minute walk gets you right into the heart of Shakespeare country.

The whole setup feels like someone took the concept of boutique hospitality and just… did their own thing with it. There’s no stuffy five-star pretense here – instead, you get this genuinely unique vibe that’s hard to pin down. I mean, it’s not trying to be the most Instagram-worthy place in the Cotswolds, but there’s something refreshingly authentic about it. The rooms have character (and I don’t mean that in the estate agent way where “character” means wonky plumbing). They’ve actually put thought into the details without going overboard. The kind of place where you notice little touches that make you think, “oh, someone who travels a lot designed this.”

What really won me over was how it sits in the broader Stratford experience. You’re positioned perfectly for exploring beyond just Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the obvious tourist trail – Charlecote Park is a short drive if you fancy seeing some deer, and honestly, having your own space to decompress after a day of being herded around Shakespeare’s birthplace is invaluable. The parking situation actually works (miracle in Stratford), and you don’t have to navigate those narrow medieval streets every time you want to grab something from your car.

The staff seem to get that most people staying here are either doing the full Shakespeare pilgrimage or using Stratford as a base for wider Warwickshire exploring, so they’re genuinely helpful with local insights rather than just pushing the same tourist brochure everyone else hands out. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no lengthy spiel about amenities I can figure out myself, just the practical stuff I actually needed to know. The whole place has this lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than some corporate hotel chain’s idea of what travelers want. It’s earned that 8.2 rating honestly – not because it’s trying to be everything to everyone, but because it does its own thing really well.

This was an excellent find for us. Such a beautiful caravan in fact the photos on the website don't do it justice at all. The caravan was exceptionally big and the bedrooms were a great size with really comfortable beds and lovely soft bedding. Two toilets was a bonus. The kitchen was an ample size with everything you needed for your stay. Great television and lounge/dining area. The veranda outside is a great size with a good table and chairs. The surroundings on the park are outstanding, right on the river Avon with exceptional views. The bar and entertainment looked top class although we didn't use it, it was very busy and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
The tranquility of this park is just wonderful. Nice and peaceful and we had a fabulous time. We will certainly return in the future.
