Regatta Point Tavern & Holiday Villas

Regatta Point Tavern & Holiday Villas Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Regatta Point? It’s actually right there on the Esplanade – I mean, literally on Strahan’s waterfront strip – but it doesn’t feel touristy in that overwhelming way some harbor places do. When I first pulled up, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star spot, but the moment you walk in, there’s this sort of relaxed tavern vibe that just works. The reception area flows right into the restaurant space, and you can smell something good cooking – usually their seafood, which makes sense since the fishing boats dock practically outside your window.
The villas themselves are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbors’ conversations through paper-thin walls, which I really appreciated. My room had this view of Macquarie Harbour that was honestly better than some 5-star places I’ve stayed at – you wake up to mist rolling off the water and those old Huon pines lining the shore. The furnishings are what I’d call “practical comfortable” – nothing fancy, but the bed was solid and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which matters more than you’d think after a day exploring the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers area. There’s a bit of tavern noise downstairs if you’re directly above the main bar area, but it quiets down by 10 PM most nights (weekends might push that to 11).
What really sold me on this place was how the staff actually knew Strahan – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to catch the best light for photos at Henty Dunes, which days the Heritage Landing Museum is worth visiting, and honestly the best times to book the Gordon River cruise without dealing with massive crowds. The tavern downstairs serves this wallaby stew that sounds weird but is actually incredible, and their fish and chips use whatever the local boats brought in that day. Parking’s easy enough – there’s space right out front, and you’re walking distance to everything that matters: the wharf, the visitor center, that little stretch of shops along the harbor. I mean, Strahan’s not exactly sprawling, but still. The whole setup feels like what a harbor town hotel should be – unpretentious, comfortable, and run by people who actually live here year-round instead of just managing a property remotely.

Great location. Very nice views from Villas 3 and 4. In my opinion, very good value for money. We used the barbecue table out the front and enjoyed the view before dinner. Good meals at the tavern but do take their advice and book because it gets very busy. The villas were close to town - 2 minute drive to the wharf for our river cruise. Perfect...

Very spacious self contained two bedroom villa with cooking facilities, adjoining the tavern. Great water views across the bay and overlooking the West Coast Railway Station was an added bonus. Short walk along the waterfront (1.5 ks) to town, if you want, and to Hogarth Falls. Easy access to Gordon River Cruises. Regatta Point Tavern staff were...
