Platinum Holiday Caravan

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled into Skiddaw View Holiday Park looking for the Platinum Holiday Caravan – I mean, “caravan” had me thinking we’re talking about some basic mobile home situation. But honestly, this place completely flipped my expectations. It’s actually this beautifully appointed static caravan that’s been transformed into something that feels more like a boutique retreat than anything you’d typically associate with holiday park accommodation.
The location is what really gets you though. You’re tucked away in Bothel, which most people drive right past on their way to the Lake District proper, but that’s actually the genius of it. You get those stunning Skiddaw mountain views without the crowds that swamp places like Keswick or Windermere. The caravan itself sits in this quiet corner of the park where you can actually hear the birds in the morning instead of car doors slamming. Inside, someone’s put real thought into the design – we’re talking proper comfortable furnishings, a kitchen that’s actually functional (not just a token mini-fridge and microwave setup), and this cozy living area where you can spread out with a book and a cup of tea while looking out at the fells. The whole thing feels surprisingly spacious, and I’ll be honest, the bed was more comfortable than some proper hotels I’ve stayed in.
What I really appreciated was how it strikes this perfect balance between having your own space and being part of something bigger. The holiday park has all the facilities if you want them – decent showers, a little shop for basics, kids’ playground if you’re traveling with family – but the caravan is self-contained enough that you can just disappear into your own little world. Parking’s right outside your door, which is brilliant when you’re hauling bags or groceries, and the whole setup just works. You’re about fifteen minutes from Cockermouth if you need proper shops or restaurants, and the location puts you in striking distance of both the northern Lakes and the Solway Coast, which a lot of visitors completely miss. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places that doesn’t fit the usual hotel categories but absolutely nails what it’s trying to do. Perfect for couples wanting a quiet base for exploring, or honestly anyone who wants to experience this part of Cumbria without the tourist circus.

Staff : Note that the caravan was located in a wider "caravan park" which I guess maintained by a central corporation at the site. However for these several "private units", there was no reception facility, hence we just communicated via the Booking.com App (friendly in nature). The response time was very short i.e. same day and/or within hours...

I’ve never stayed in such a modern caravan. I’d seen pictures but in person myself and my wife were blown away how high the standard was.
