NRMA Treasure Island Holiday Resort
You know what surprised me about NRMA Treasure Island? It’s actually tucked away on Brisbane Road in Biggera Waters, which honestly most people zip right past on their way to the main Gold Coast attractions – and that’s exactly why it works so well. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything (Harbour Town’s practically next door if you need some serious shopping therapy), but you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of Surfers Paradise every time you want to grab a coffee.
The whole “holiday resort” thing isn’t just marketing speak here – they’ve got this proper family-friendly setup that feels more like a well-organized summer camp than a sterile hotel. The pools are where everyone ends up hanging out, and I loved that there’s actually space to spread out without feeling like you’re in someone else’s Instagram shot. What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area – when I asked about good fish and chips that weren’t touristy, the guy at reception immediately pointed me toward a spot the locals actually use, not some overpriced place with a harbor view. The rooms themselves are honestly pretty solid for a 4-star place. Nothing fancy, but everything works, the air con doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your stuff properly (you’d be amazed how many places skip that basic detail).
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a day or two to really appreciate – you’re right in this sweet spot where you can walk to the Broadwater for those calm morning swims, but you’re also close enough to the M1 that day trips up to Brisbane or down to Byron Bay aren’t a massive production. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you realize it’s not trying to be the flashiest place on the Coast, it’s just doing the fundamentals really well. Parking’s easy (and free, which is basically a miracle around here), the breakfast actually has decent coffee, and honestly, the whole vibe is just… relaxed? I stayed during school holidays and yeah, there were plenty of families around, but it never felt chaotic or like the kids were running the show. If you’re looking for that perfect balance where you can enjoy the Gold Coast without feeling like you’re trapped in a theme park, this place gets it right. Plus, being in Biggera Waters means you’re experiencing a bit of the Coast that actually feels like Australia, not just a tourist playground.

Could be improved
Our cabin didn't really have a mop or broom which really could have helped keep the dirt from coming in.

So much to do, didn't really need to leave resort. The food at restaurant was reasonably priced. They were generous serves and very nice.

The whole stay was brilliant apart from 1 staff member in the bar with a poor attitude.

The property was in a great spot, so easy to get to the motorway which was handy for all the day trips we had planned. Super close to lots of great food options. The staff were amazing, breakfast and coffee were tip top and we were so impressed with all the activities around for families and kids. Our kid was constantly entertained. The cabin...

Great customer service, clean and comfortable suite. The resort is perfect for family get-togethers/reunions. Close to shopping, great restaurants and the Broadwater. What could be improved: The restaurant was a little disorganised when ordering food and drink but the staff were aware of the wait time and were very apologetic for the time patrons...
