Horseshoe Bay is one of those spots locals try to keep quiet about, with calm waters that are perfect for swimming and enough space that it never feels crowded, even during school holidays. Early mornings, you’ll often have the beach pretty much to yourself, just pelicans doing their thing and maybe a few dedicated fishers casting lines. The park’s position means you’re getting those incredible sunrise views right from your accommodation – I actually found myself waking up early just to watch (and I’m definitely not a morning person). Staff here seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the scripted tourist recommendations. They’ll point you toward the good fishing spots or mention when the local markets are on. Check-in was straightforward, parking is never an issue, and the whole place has this easygoing Queensland holiday feel without any of the rough edges you sometimes get at budget-friendly parks. With an 8.8 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get why people keep coming back.
