Mittagong Caravan Park

Mittagong Caravan Park Overview
You know what? I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Mittagong Caravan Park on Old Hume Highway, I wasn’t expecting much. The name screams “basic roadside stop,” but this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s one of those spots that’s been quietly doing its thing right, and locals seem to know something the rest of us are just figuring out.
The thing about Mittagong is that it sits in this sweet spot in the Southern Highlands where you’re close enough to everything but far enough away to actually breathe. The caravan park takes advantage of this perfectly – you’ll wake up to proper fresh air (not that fake mountain resort stuff) and the kind of quiet that makes you realize how wound up you’ve been. I mean, yes, you can hear the occasional truck on the highway, but it’s more of a gentle hum than anything disruptive. The facilities here are genuinely well-maintained, which honestly isn’t always a given with caravan parks. The amenities block was spotless when I visited, hot water was reliable, and there’s actually decent water pressure – small things that make a huge difference when you’re trying to rinse off after a day of exploring.
What really gets me about this place is how it works as a base for the whole region. You’re literally minutes from Mittagong’s main street (which has that great little bakery everyone raves about), but you can also duck down to Bowral or even make a day trip to the coast without too much drama. The staff here actually know the area – not just the tourist brochure version, but the real deal. They’ll tell you which walking tracks are worth your time and which local pubs serve decent food. During winter, this whole area gets pretty magical with the mist rolling through the hills, and you’ll appreciate having a comfortable, warm base to return to. Summer’s busy, obviously, but even then it doesn’t feel chaotic like some of the coastal parks do. There’s enough space between sites that you’re not listening to your neighbor’s entire conversation over dinner. The park has that lived-in feeling that comes from good management over time – trees are mature, grass is actually green, and everything just works the way it should. Look, it’s not fancy, but it’s solid, reliable, and in a location that lets you explore one of NSW’s most underrated regions without breaking the bank or dealing with resort nonsense.

The park was so pretty. Honestly one of the nicest caravan parks I've stayed at in recent years. Beautiful setting. It was green. It was quiet. There was space between everyone's cabins, caravans and/or camping spots (it wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder and overfilled) so it felt quite private in comparison to many others. The reception girl was bubbly...
