Metung Holiday Villas

Metung Holiday Villas Overview
You know what hit me first about Metung Holiday Villas? It’s that perfect sweet spot where you’re tucked away from everything but still close enough to actually do stuff. I mean, Mairburn Road is basically this quiet residential street that dead-ends near the water, so you’re not dealing with any through traffic – which honestly makes such a difference when you’re trying to sleep in.
The villas themselves are proper spacious, not like those cramped hotel rooms where you’re tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. These feel more like someone’s well-appointed holiday house that they’ve decided to share. The kitchens are actually functional (I cooked pasta one night and didn’t have to hunt around for a decent pot), and the living areas have this comfortable, lived-in vibe without being shabby. What I really appreciated was the attention to those little details – good water pressure in the showers, decent wifi that doesn’t drop out every ten minutes, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train. The whole setup works particularly well if you’re traveling with family or friends, since you can spread out and do your own thing without stepping on each other.
But here’s the real kicker – Metung itself is one of those places that locals from Melbourne escape to, especially during summer when the Gippsland Lakes are perfect for swimming and boating. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the waterfront, and I’m talking about proper lake access, not just a distant view. The village has this sleepy charm that’s refreshing after city life, with a decent pub (the Metung Hotel does solid fish and chips) and a few cafes that don’t take themselves too seriously. If you’re into fishing or kayaking, well, you’ve basically struck gold here – the boat ramp is right there, and the channels around Bancroft Bay are gorgeous for paddling around. During winter it’s much quieter, which could be perfect or lonely depending on what you’re after. The staff at the villas seem to actually live in the area, so they know which spots are worth your time and which tourist traps to skip. That 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place where everything just works without any drama, the location delivers on what you’d hope for, and you leave feeling like you’ve discovered something special rather than just ticked another accommodation box.

Friendly staff always, and quick response if raised maintenance requests. (Staff came to replace gas bottle within 5 mins after hours! ) Cabin was kept clean and comfortable. Location was not too bad as it was close to Metung hot spring where we were up to. Kids liked to play swimming pool as well. What could be improved: Few children were hanging...
